Bachelor party and Playa Dorada do not go hand in hand.
Playa Dorada is a family focused complex with a bunch of all-inclusive resorts. Girls, strippers etc are going to have a problem.
Staying at an AI if your planning a bachelor party is a very bad idea.

Try something like "Fields of Dreams" if your a bunch of guys coming for a bachelor party.

http://fieldofdreams.20m.com/

Santo Domingo is by far the best place to hold a bachelor party.
You have the locations, strip clubs, hotels, girls, restaurants, night life etc etc.

And in Santo Domingo there are a wealth of willing "guides" available. . . .like me. . . . .if I am i town. . . .lol. . . .

In puerto plata, robert is right, I have never been to field of dreams but they are set up for just your type of crowd. For night clubs, Anna Miriam. . . or similar is supposed to be wild and if you show up with 20 guys you will get treated like kings. . . .or get taken to the cleaners. . . .depends on your knowledge of how things work down there.

Santo Domingo does not have the beach but with 20 guys you can hire a couple of mini vans to take you anywhere you want to go. Boca Chica is just 30 minutes away and as Robert said, way more bachelor party options in santo domingo if you want to do it in style.

If you prefer sleaze, Sosua is the place to be.

I am now looking into booking three villas in Playa Cofresi. Does anybody know it? It is close enough to the nightlife. The places look really nice and I think we won't have any problems doing our partying until the wee hours. How far it from t he good restaurants and casinos? I am not worried about anybody trying to take us for a "ride". I own three bars here in NYC and a lot of the guys coming with me are bouncers and bartenders. We have all pretty much been around the block. As for Santo Domingo, I don't think that I will be able to sell the idea of going to the caribbean without having the ocean within stone's throw away. Does anyone else agree? I know the "activities" might be better in SD, but I can't base the whole trip on that.
How far is Sousa from Playa Cofresi? I have no problem doing some night trips...I am fully prepared to hire a driver or two.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but if the trip isn't done right, I am going to hear about it the whole time down there.

Thanks once again...

I think for a bunch of just coming down for a bachelor party, this is a very good suggestion. You wont have to worry about any of the group getting into trouble, or lost, etc.. And I believe you will be able to have all the fun you want in relative privacy.

Hey Larry, I am going to keep the FoD in mind. I am actually going to call my buddy now to inform him of this place. I will also give him the link and let him view it for himself. Let me ask you, do you think we could rent the WHOLE place??? How many rooms do you think that would be?

Cabarete to Puerto Plata??

Rockaway John.

As I have not been yet, I cannot say for sure, but lots of these nice people on DR1 have advised me that it is not the nicest ride at night, and about 40-45 minutes. I was thinking of renting a car at one point, and I have since thought otherwise. I am staying in Cabarete, so a lot happens there and of course Sosua is only 10 minutes away. I just want to get there and then maybe get a car for a couple of days. Again, I was warned that probably should not drive at night. I guess the roads are not that great and the driving skills of many drivers - well....."suck".!!
Apparently lots of public transit??? LIke I said, only know what I have been told on this board, but, I will give a trip report when I get back for sure.
Casa Linda looks really nice, I saw that one too. Did Rimma tell you about it??
She was so helpful !!

Lots of luck!

Meg,
If it were me and my wife...Casa Linda would be the place to go to...But, with this crowd, we wouldn't last 1 hour. Not bad guys, but a little loud and big drinkers (know what I mean?)

speaking of AZB......

could it be finally a meaningful new years resolution!!!!!!!!!!!

his absence from a few well baited threads lends credence to the possibility he turned a new leaf, and will be a kind, caring sole to all, especially the needy barrio folk, and dumb foreigners feeling their way through the seedy chopo hangouts!

I think not. He's flown the coop for a while. A shame. We need someone plugging Santiago along with SD, Sosua, and various private villas.

I was confused by Rockaways' first comments.. read as if Punta Cana A1s weren't ritzy enough. I was sure he and his gang needed the up-and-coming medical, legal, and architectural students of Santiago whom AZB would be obliged to introduce.

Why hasn't Badpiece checked in? I think Rockaway ought to hear his advice... he's been in on a big bachelor party here in Sosua and well, pretty much everything else. I recall that some of the partiers flew into SD and although they actually found their way to Sosua, they never made their return flights.

Just wondering... do the brides-to-be of these bachelor parties know anything about the Dominican Republic?

My advice: Rockaway, whatever you do, don't leave a voicemail on your buddy's answering machine. :)

You guys should just rent out the Field of Dreams for the week or weekend. You probably can get the whole place to yourselves for your entire stay, plus you get a free guide (Billy) to take you where you need to go. You're also across the street from Playa Dorado.

I dont know exactly how many rooms there are. I met the owner, Billy, when I was on the north coast over the summer and popped in to see the place and had lunch but do not remember how many rooms there were. It was a nice place and if Billy can accomodate all of your friends, I think staying there would be a good decision.

Good luck :)

well i really dont think the road is bad at all..probably good for the DR!. But after doing some serious drinking, and being big targets in that state, and the fact that there isnt much help along that route late at night, unless you have a series of cars rented, I think it may be a big risk. if you guys are going to be that far from the hotel when you are partying, you really dont want to get all strung out and seperated by that kind of distance. You know some guys will want to head back to the hotel room earlier than other , for whatever reason!!!!! And then there will be part of the gang in one town and part on the road and part at the hotels ect ect, all pretty far apart.Even though I think it is only about a 1/2 hour trip especially at night.

Problem with Fields of Dreams is that it is a cab ride to anywhere, even the beach. Actually, Puerto Plata in general isn't the place for this excursion. Sosua has everything needed.

Don't forget to do a night at Crystal's
For what 20 gringos will be exploited for in one night at Crystal, they can experience a week of debauchery in Sosua.

OK...so where is Sousa in relation to Purto Plata. Where do you fly into and where would you recommend staying?

Sosua is just east of Puerto Plata. Puerto Plata Airport is located between the two towns. In fact Sosua is much closer to the airport than Puerto Plata itself.

As far as accomodations, there are all price ranges. If you are interested in a villa, the most prestigious in the area (actually Cabarete, the next town) would be the Seahorse Ranch.

You fly into POP (Puerto Plata Airport) which is in fact located between Sosua and Puerto Plata. Sosua is to the east of Puerto Plata and takes around 25/30 mins to get to by car.

You can get a local bus or taxi for 20/25 pesos. A private taxi woudl be considerably more (I am not sure of exact rates) but if you split it between you it shouldn't be so bad.

If it's ladies and night life you want then I would say stay in Sosua...all night life in Sosua would be within walking distance of your hotel and so long as you aviod the AI's you should have no problem bringing back guests.

Have a great time
