I was able to get in touch with, and speak to, the general manager of the Hotel Napolitano today, Mr. Dal Moro. It was a cordial phone conversation of about 15 minutes concerning the incident with my black friend not being allowed entrance to the nightclub Mint.
According to Mr. Dal Moro, Mint has very strict entrance rules, especially in regards to attire. He also says that the club gets very crowded and patrons are denied access for this reason as well. He also comments that the phrase "private party" is used to kindly tell a patron they cannot enter without that patron getting upset.
Mr. Dal Moro denies Mint is a racist establishment and points to a recent promotional video that was done of the club where faces of all colors can be seen.
I appreciate Mr. Dal Moro taking out some time to discuss the incident. In the end, I still feel the same about my friend's denied access. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I laid out the facts about what occurred that night and drew a personal conclusion. There were many comments, some 150 that followed, showing just how touchy this particular subject is. Many people posted and many people drew there own personal conclusions; just as Mr. Dal Moro.
No matter what your opinion is about this incident and many others that involve some type of racism in the DR, it's beneficial that we can discuss them: hear people out, draw conclusions and hopefully move forward in a positive way.
I also invited Mr. Dal Moro to post last in this thread with his own comments.
For me, opinions and feelings have not changed. At the very least, none of this was just swept under the rug.
