Where abouts in Canada are you from? I'm in Toronto. Will be heading to the DR in Feb to be with Dominican husband. Renting an apt for about 2 mths. I am dominican and my roommate last year was chinese. I used the rice cooker everyday and eventually I even began to make Dominican style rice in the cooker...no concon though.
