Mirador,

No estoy diciendo que no valla a ser un blockbuster. Man the theater was packed!!! But I was there. Most people booed at the end. The 5 people I went with didn't like it at all either.

I'm a big Tom Hanks fan. But I didn't like him for this role. I would have preferred someone else.

Get out and see it sometime. Me gustaria saber tu opinion mi pana.

Tiguere, I don't doubt it!, AFAICR, every book, movie, play, etc. that has been hyped-up with controversy ("banned in Boston", "banned by the Vatican", etc.) prior to showing or publishing, has been dissapointing.

According to Clave Digital, SD bishop Francisco Jos? Arnaiz and Marisela Alvarez, former Miss World '82, have asked for a boycot of DVC.

The Kid, lover of controversy and chaos, is quite dissappointed; he was hoping the big dog himself would chime in publicly, pounding at the podium in a Krushchevesque fashion, while urging Dominicans the world over to stay away.

Well, The Kid just watched it - VERY long lines at H-town's biggest moviehouse. It's fairly faithful to the book.

And as Casey Kasem used to say, "Now, on with the countdown" to the release of The Key of Solomon.

Cardinal endorses DVC

The old darling doesn't disappoint - it was just a matter of time.

Watch those takings rocket!

Report in Monday's Diario Libre.

On the radio this morning they said it wasn't showing in Santiago - is this to do with the controversy?

They were afraid of riots and damage to theater.

Brown's a hack. DVC is a second-rate anti-Catholic polemic, poorly researched with sloppy theology.

Enjoy it if you want, sure. (I enjoy drinking cheap beer). But let's not get carried away.

Besides, can you really watch a movie in which Tom Hanks has hair like that? The promotional posters alone make me laugh.

I'm not touching the book or the movie. This Dan Brown can now retire in peace thanks to all of u.

Like everything else, the more attention the religious leaders bring to it the more people want to watch it. I really don't care to discuss it, this is the most I'll say about it.

I see the clergy got to you.

But if you really think we have been terrible, then you ain't see nothing yet.

This DVC is an industry in itself. Over 4 dozen books have been written disputing it and/or to help you "crack the code." Travel agencies sell special DVC packages to Europe, where you can start at the Louvre and on to the next location. Parents are naming their newborn daughters Sophie. This is as big as the iPod.

According to NYT's Frank Rich, Sony even footed the bill for a website so scholars can discuss and dispute Brown's novel. But all in an effort to create controversy and excite folks, kind of like Abramoff lobbying against casinos in Texas, yet taking money from casinos in nearby Louisiana. Pretty clever, but Mirador was the first to figure it out in this very same thread.

No matter how cheap a thriller it is, isn't it incredible how one man can kick big time religion and said religion helps him do it?

Just finished watching it

No big deal. I can't see why the Catholic church or anyone else would be up in arms over it. Moderately entertaining at it's best. The women should like it though.

Have you by any chance read "As I Lay Dying" by Faulkner??? I hear its EXCELLENT.

Am currently reading Anna Karenina by Tolstoy..... pretty good so far.

As far as DVC- i keep hearing its AWFUL- i never picked the book back up again, but all the folks that have seen it are saying that the movie does an absolute slaughter of how good the book was...... Still curious enough to see it........when it comes out on DVD.... i cant waste my time going to the movies to "nap"...am notorious for falling asleep at the movies and if the movie is half as bad as everyone is claiming, i'll be out scene one...ALTHOUGH with Toms "do" i might stay up longer laughing....

It's hard to fall asleep in a Dominican movie theatre with everyone talking or answering their cell phones.

As hard up as dominicans are about religion and "el padre, y la virgen y jesucristo"...i cant see the theatres there being packed with them waiting to see the movie.

I just saw the movie in Malecon Center, among plenty of dominicans spending the whole movie talking on their cell-phone...

The movie sucks !
It's dull, boring, and no one can ever understand if he hasn't read the book first...

I was amazed that such good actors as Tom Hanks and Jean Reno could ever perform such bad acting...

I wasn't impressed by the book, but I am really amazed at how bad such a multi zillion $ budget movie can be !!!

I watched the movie and it was okay. I guess since I read the book which I enjoyed very much! But so much was missing in the movie but then there's no way to fit a whole book in one movie. I prefer to read anyhow :) The movie was alright in my opinion but nothing special.

I wonder if anyone who hasn't read the book thought the movie was any good? just curious as to there opinion?

Most people I've talked you who have read the book didn't enjoy the movie very much.

People talk on cell phone here in TO as well not just int he DR lol plus kicking there feet on the back of your chair, happens every time to me :tired: Sorry just ranting a little about my pet peeves at the movie theatre :)

I have not read the book, but did see the movie yesterday at Malecon Centre (Squat, did you see the 21:30 on as well?). Of course I had an idea of what the book is about before through the media. It was not too complicated to follow, just quite a lot of ?surprises? of the sort that a good guy turns out to be a bad guy and the like. It was certainly not a memorable movie, the plot is pretty improbable, no particularly interesting effects or camera work, but not an extremely bad movie to booh at either, the story is pretty entertaining, like complot stories always are. Just another Hollywood movie.
And yes, people talking in mobile phones, but I thought it was less at the Malecon Center than I`ve seen elsewhere.

Just seen movie - haven't read book!

Just saw the movie in Playa Dorada - I haven't read the book or even looked to find what the film was all about so had no expectations.

For me it was just OK. Quite interesting and something to think about but other than that, not a film I would watch again in a hurry. I might watch it again at home - more comfortable chairs, etc!!

Just for info, the film was in English with Spanish subtitles but when the French were speaking French, there was also Spanish subtitles. I assume on the original film, there would be English subtitles. So, if you can't read Spanish (I can but not too well!) you miss out on some of what is going on!! Does that make sense???
