Howmar,

Does the casino at Jack Tar Village have a NL Hold em table?

If so:

1) What are the blinds?

2) Whats the rake?

3) Have you played there? What are your experiences??

Thanks,

Larry
Yes.
Blinds are 50/100 pesos. Minimum buyin is 1500 pesos.
Rake is 4%, no cap
Game scheduled to begin nightly at 9:00PM. Usually doesn't get started until 9:30. Usually half tourists, 2-3 expats, and 2-3 local Dominicans. Local Dominicans make it a game where you can get some bad beats as they very loose and will make unpredictable bets and get lucky. By the end of the night there usually is about 50-75,000 on the table. Some nights though, there are only 4-5 players.

Great, thanks. 4% rake is actually good for this country where every other place seems to be at 5%.

***off topic*** (For Howmar) I am annoyed this morning because I finished 7th in a 99 person online tourney last night. I was the chip leader with about 15 of us left. Then with 9 left, I made the mistake of making a big pre-flop re-raise with AK out of position (in BB). Unfortunately, I had a caller and when I missed the flop (Q,10,4 rainbow) I led out pretty big gambling that he missed or even if he called, I still had lots of outs. Anyway he smooth called with KQ, turn was a blank, I checked and he moved in on me. I had to throw it away and couldnt recover.

They changed from 5% to 4% a few months ago when there was a change in management of the table. The table was originally outsourced to a local Dominican. He brought in too many shills who played in tandem to force everybody out. We (the local expats) complained to Casino Management that the game was getting like the game at Paradise Casino (too many locals colluding). The American Casino took the game back, dropped the rake, and it has been a good game since. The Wiseguys don't even try to play unless they see a large group of tourists with dead money.

Regarding collusion at poker tables here. I have played a number of times at Breezes in Caberete (5% rake). There is always 4 or 5 of the same people in the game, a couple who work in the casino. I would presume they are colluding. I looked really hard and tried to pay attention to everything the first few sessions I played there but detected nothing. Anyway, I have done very well at that table so I can't complain. If there is collusion between players there, they are doing a poor job. I know that casino has a bad reputationdue to it's Progressive Keno scam but I would play at that poker table again.

Jaragua feedback

In addition to the possible scams at the tables and slots of the Jaragua, let's talk about how they rip you off in the lounge!!! I was in there a few weeks ago and it was about $10 a beer. I am not joking! I almost died when I went up to the counter to clear my tab on my credit card!

On a better note....the Merengue band in the lounge is absolutely awesome. (and the singers VERY cute...he, he!)

Update on the rake at Jack Tar. Originally I said it was 4% with no cap. They changed it again. It is still 4%. But now there is zero rake for pots less than 500 pesos. Zero rake on all split pots. Maximum of 500 pesos rake on any pot (pot needs to exceed 12,500 to reach this).
At least they are trying.
