This is nothing new, most Casinos (and Hotels) have always given bad exchange rates, especially at the gaming tables. Although a 10% differential is quite high.
Do you have any first hand experience with this? It sounds like some tourist picked up a prostitute, got drunk, and had his chips stolen by his escort. I find it hard to believe that the Jaragua would be in cahoots with the thieves.

I have seen the "girls" passing off money to the security guards on several occasions. Probably not a cut from what they steal but from what they "earn" from the tourists. Pay for access.

Malibook...

Yes, that is exactly my point...MOST people that to go the casinos can't afford to lose their money for the slim chance that they 'might' win some...

Just like playing the lottery...

You won't see many 'millionaires' playing in those casinos...they know where to go and CAN afford to lose big...

You're right...I should consider the source of the comments and not even reply anymore...I just find it funny that someone would go to a place to lose money and then complain about it...

Oh, well...'nough said!!!

Don't expect DR casinos to cater to gamblers or even tourists. DR casinos are not usually in the business of gambling, they are giant laundromats and their activity is to process large amounts of cash on a daily basis. DR casinos do not provide authorities with a money trail, or inform of suspicious transactions. Drug profits are laundered through local casinos. Large bills, probably marked by undercover agents, are exchanged into 'legitimate money' through the casinos, and many a 'jackpot' winning is nothing more than a means to legitimize illegal drug profits...

The OP wasn't a complaint. It looked more like a warning to others to watch their chips. Then you jumped in and called people who go to casinos "dumb".

You must be a lot of fun to be around,

Isn't the word "dumb" more often associated with the word
"blonde" than the word "gambler"?

I have seen hookers steal chips from other players stacks at the blackjack tables in the Jaragua. Once, the dealer saw that I saw and she did nothing. I said nothing as it was none of my business, and I live here and don't want these people to decide I am their enemy.
Wow!

In the not so recent past, I've left my chips on the table while I went to the restroom. I guess I won't be doing that anymore.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Don't do that, Ed. One of the low-lifes will steal your chips and the braindead dealer will say nothing. They don't want problems.

In light of Larry's warning, I don't plan on doing that anymore.

DUMB!!!!!!!!!!!!! they cant speak!!

IS THAT why I never hear them say anything over at the black jack table...they just tap the table or wave their hand!

man I feel sorry for them now

over at the roulette table we dont have dumb people..well all chat it up!!!!

I am constantly hearing CONO!!!!!!!!!

ha ha ha then they go back into the pocket!!!

those dominicans cant stand to have chips in front of them at the roulette table.. they bet EVERYTHING every hand!

but since they fill up the board every spin.. they win something back.

the only way they get ahead is when they get really lucky and the number they had MORE chips on, wins.....but eventually they leave with nothing!! ha ha ha

The root of the problems at the Jaragua Casino is the fact that the Dominican management has only two concerns, that they make money and they aren't cheated. They have no concern for customer welfare. This attitude is present in ALL Dominican managed casinos that I have been in. That is why I exclusively go to the American Casino at Jack Tar Village in Playa Dorada. This casino has been outsourced to a Canadian company in partnership with a company from Spain. The Canadian company manages the casino. This is the only casino in Puerto Plata that has video coverage and taping off all tables and cashiers. The general manager, Roger Kieth, a Canadian, has been operating the casino for the past 4 years. If there is ever a dispute at a table, or an error is seen by security on the cat walk, the game is stopped and the video is reviewed and correction made. They are willing to take a patron to view the video if he doesn't agree with the ruling. For questions for which there is not clear evidence (like a vague hand signal), the disputes are usually resolved to keep the patron happy. The staff is well trained, most have been there for many years. They depend on tips for a large portion of their income and are trained to make the patron appreciate them. I have seen wiseguys and cheats removed or prevented entrance. Working girls are present, but not agressive. I highly recommed the American Casino at Jack Tar Village.

the jack tar casino is the one where the girl complained and they reviewed the video, and found she was correct.. they never stopped the game though.... once they came back with the truth the set the table to that position and then paid her. so the camera saw her winning and getting paid .

Howmar,

Does the casino at Jack Tar Village have a NL Hold em table?

If so:

1) What are the blinds?

2) Whats the rake?

3) Have you played there? What are your experiences??

Thanks,

Larry
