Thank you very much understood very clear now....one more question. When you enter legal via a check point can you stay as long as you want ? * *

As a tourist soaking the sun and spending money yes but if you intent to work or run a business that's when you will be there illegally. One more time?

Thank you for that clarification. You're 100% correct. I was looking through the glasses of someone who had no intention of working or running a business (on the books).

Is there any way of paying and getting your passport stamped before going to the airport?

Dominican pesos only. In a pinch, they may escort you to the change huts pass the inspection point to change foreign currency, but be prepared. No plastic.

The sign at SDQ posts prices in both pesos and US dollars. I swear I saw a sign for debit/credit cards too. Will check when we leave, and will take a photo.

Yes, the tourist card can be extended. You obtain an "ESTADIA PARA TARJETA DE TURISTA" The fees are the same as the overstay, the only difference is that you are 100% llegit.

"In case a person wants to extend his visit while in the Dominican Republic, he must go through the Offices of the General Directorate of Migration and request an extension."

"En caso de que una persona quiera extender su visita mientras está en la República Dominicana, deberá pasar por las Oficinas de la Dirección General de Migración y solicitar prórroga."
