Interesting thread. You guys can only list the wealthy in the DR who are of public consumption. Believe me, greater are those who are invisible in the DR and have net worths in excess of those mentioned. They don't want to be known.

There are 2 two types of wealth. The ones who are born into it and those that got lucky. Hard work and perseverance can only get you so far which ain't much. Capitalism is a get lucky system.

If you're poor which is most of the world's population and I include the middle class (or like we say in the DR pobres acomodados) and some so called upper classes then you'll need a lottery like result to come close to anything resembling TRUE WEALTH.

Its so much more exciting to talk about mysterious things like "TRUE WEALTH", which is unquantifiable, isn't it! That these people are super secret and don't want to be known.. sshhh! Someone might find out!

I believe hard numbers. Period.

It doesn't matter if you have 100 million or 40 billion, you both can live the same lifestyle and spend money with boths hands and feet and still not spend it all if you are a smart invester and a good business minded person.
So does it really matter if you are worth 40 billion or 100 million? Both can afford a private jet to fly anywhere and aquire whatever money can buy. there are limits to buying and spending as a private person.
That is typically a nerd mentality to guage a person's wealth by numbers. What matters is what you do with the money. I would rather prefer to have 50 million in the bank and have looks of brad pit and spend money like porfirio rubiroso (the original dominican james bond) than to have a look and mentality of bill gates ( a pure nerd who would get his ass kicked in high school by any tom dick and harry).
Folks, there is more to money, its called life. Get into the habbit of living the life and as opposed to adding the next dollar to your bank account. We are here in DR to live a healthy and a happy life. Money sure can buy happiness and comfort but without your health, your 40 billion is worthless.
Have a nice day.

You guys missed a few

Bermudez
Brugal
Alvarez

Just to name three....and there are people in Santo Domingo that have US$100 MM as start up money.

I know a guy, an old ex student of mine, who own a couple of million square meters of land in B?varo. And he tells me he is poor by comparison. go figure.

Iwonder about Edmond El?as the casino king...

And there are a few more that can probably come close to that 100 MM mark....they just do not get up in your face about it.

I hope you guys are distinguishing between net worth and earnings. BIG difference- Some guy out there may have a net worth of 100 million and earned nothing last year or he's going down the tubes.

some one mentioned how it is really difficult to earn 100$ million dollars in the DR because the ecomony is to small or weak to allow many to gather up that much money.(if i understood that post correctly) not everyone worth over 100$ million dollars in the DR necesarily made all their money inside the country.

oscar de la renta made virtually all his money overseas, so do the famous baseball players.

with the markets all becoming global(for better or worse) the big time money makers seem to all be international business men.

Its funny how these kinds of discussions bring out all kinds of viewpoints in people.

Hey, if you truly don't care, why tell us about it? Why not just skip this thread? Thats what I do.

The truth:

This conversation makes some of you feel inferior. I'm sorry you didn't achieve your financial dreams in life.

But some of us are still on our way up and find this conversation interesting.

ALL DOMINICAN WEALTH IS MADE MOSTLY ABROAD

It's true, wealth of $100 million or more under dominican hands was made outside of Hispaniola. However, Hispaniola the island is a wonderful spot to put one's empires headquarters, living quarters, and manufacturing venture. Think about it. You got the cheapest labor in the world (i.e. Haiti), the cheapest metropolis trying to be like Miami (i.e. Santo Domingo) to live in, the friendliest people in the world (both Haitians and Dominicans), centrally located in the Americas-good for export and import businesses especially between North and South American markets, perfect weather, diversity of natural ambiance, more golf courses than any other caribbean spot, luxury galore at basement prices (compared to the rest of the world), and an economy that pays you 18% interest on US dollar accounts - not good to put all your money in dominican banks, but an amount you're comfortable losing, don't want to feel like dyeing once the fortune goes to the Figeroa family- LOL. You see, Hispaniola is the perfect island for an economic empire!!
