Dominican Republic's nationals make up the largest group of legal residents in Dutch St. Maarten
Philipsburg St Maarten -- Data released from the latest census by the officials in St Maarten reveals that immigrants from Dominica Republic form the largest group in the country, constituting almost 15 percent of the island’s 42,000 inhabitants.
Out of the 108 different nationalities living legally in Dutch St. Maarten nationals of the Dominican Republic represent the largest immigrant block with 6,197 legal residents, followed by nationals of Haiti (5,714), Jamaica (3,353), Dominica (2,919), Guyana (2,580), India (1,755), the United States of America (1,602), France (1,118), England (1,107) and St. Lucia (908) to form the top 10 immigrant groups.
Several other Caribbean countries are also counted among those residing in St Maarten including St. Kitts and Nevis (892), Trinidad and Tobago (463), Suriname (375), St. Vincent and the Grenadines (243), Grenada (205), Antigua and Barbuda (143), and Barbados (77).
Among persons of other nationalities residing in St Maarten in lesser numbers are Italians, Chinese, Canadians, Colombians, Venezuelans, Filippinos, Jordanians, Nigerians and Lebanese.
