Of interest is that the National Hurricane Center still has only a storm watch for the east end of the DR, while they have storm warnings for the Turks and Caicos and Bahamas which are north of us.

This suggests they believe the storm will only brush the DR as it moves on to the Bahamas.

But rain, we need a lot of that. Hopefully Bertha will provide it.

If what you say is true about the path, the DR will not get its much needed rain.

The rain bands extend out further than the strongest winds.

The government of the DR has now issued a tropical storm warning for the southeast end of the DR.

The National Hurricane Center in its 11am report said:

Regarding track: WITH THIS MOTIONCONTINUING THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT. ON THE FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF BERTHA SHOULD PASS NEAR PUERTO RICO TODAY...NEAR OR OVER
THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TONIGHT...AND NEAR OR OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN BAHAMAS AND TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS ON SUNDAY.

Regarding rain: BERTHA IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 3
INCHES WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS UP TO 5 INCHES ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE
LEEWARD ISLANDS...THE U.S. AND BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS...EASTERN
PORTIONS OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AS WELL AS THE TURKS AND CAICOS
THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT.

Hopefully Sosua/Puerto Plata will at least get some showers.

Deyvi, WW

One of the outer bands is just into Monte Plata. This is out of range of the PR radar but you can pick it up on the Weather Underground from the Satelite Feeds.

Guys,
are you watching the same storm named Bertha as I do??
by the standings of today's tracking forecasts there will not be any storm wandering along the northshores/in front of POP or such.
Bertha is since long awaited to come ashore here on the SE and wander over Land over the DR towards the north.
i doubt she will survive our rough terrain as a TS, but as a small and fast moving storm she has all chances to survive and come back to powers over water once she hits the atlantik off the northshores, where she should follow the influence of a Thru which should bring the regenerating and then growing storm on a NE'erly track out on open Ocean to die solitary there. if Bertha survives a walk over our mountains, then i am sure she will become a strong TS and good likely even a Cat1 before her lonely dead out there north.
right now the center of Bertha is located around 65nmls SE of my Veranda.
we are ready, she is a weak biatch,
hopefully she will bring us 10hrs or more of steady rain over the island, but i doubt that we will get such nice jackpot tonight.
max measured rainfalls on her path over the other islands til now been only 1.3 inches as the maximum, most locations did receive not even half inch of rainwaters, a piece of sh..t. todays you can not even trust the Storms anymore, lol.
so up there north, do not watch out on the ocean to await Bertha, watch your back and watch the landside, that's where the Babe should approach you from.

cheers

Mike

hi again,
the guys on the board may also be interested in this link.
it brings directly to the live Radar coverage of Bertha.
they have to keep in mind that all shown rain is on the N and NNE and E of the Storm, hence difficult to spot the cdenter, which is on the bottom left of the raindots. zero rain on the western side of the storm.

Still Calm & Dry

Saman? still calm and dry.
PR radar sees the rain still over the Mona passage.
The system carries much of the rain in the NE sector, so we will not get that much.
