in all honesty the poor and uneducated in DR cannot afford to buy crap from international companies.

I only know from my own staff. Given the opportunity, they'll shoot the moon whenever they can for a trip to Burger King.

Krispy Kreme donuts are delicious and very, very bad for you. If they are sold at the airport, they are also likely to be overpriced.

Not as bad as some homemade chicharrones I once ate in Juan Dolio, though. You are not going to get parasites from a Krispy Kreme

Get them quick as in the past the Airport shops will be so expensive only the Donald will be able to buy there. Thats why Airport shops here do not last long. Remember, Burger King, Wendy's, and others they don't last long !

So true, look what happened to the Nathan's joint at STI...one trip ago to the states, it was there; now its gone, damn!

One of the things I really enjoy here is the abundance of fresh fruit instead of this garbage fast-food.

Sad to see a country loose it's natural beauty in exchange for fast-food in general. Dominicans are celebrating McD, BK, KK, TGIF and other chains, whereas there is plenty of good natural food available in your local supermercado's and restaurants.

I'll take a sweet ripe, sun-warmed mango with a good coffee and a cigar anytime as dessert thank you very much..

All naturally grown locally in the DR

You can buy Nathan' hot dogs in Supermarkets here. Have seen them in both Pola and Nacional a lot. But don't buy the ones with cheese in them. Not original, buy the beef ones. Also get some Guldon's Spicy Mustard to put on them.

Yes to Gulden's Spicy Brown mostaza, and NO to ever tainting a hot dog with ketchu!

if you had to eat some of these local hot dogs, you would put ketchup on them, too. and treacle. and maple syrup. and Mobil1.

Ketchup goes on potato's & hamburgers, not hot dogs.
I can think of many better local options to eat.

Not to mention the roll they put them dogs on. You can stack two hot dogs on top of each other and still have room for all the toppings you want. Please don't blink when they fix the dog cause you will have ketchup, mayo, and that fake bottled cheese on top so quick you won't know what to do.

Back to do-nuts. There is a guy at the Centro de los Heroes Metro station that has a little hustle going. He buys several boxes of Krispy Kreme do-nuts and resells them. He sells out every day. Not sure what kind of profit he makes but probably a lot easier than sitting and waiting on a moto all day.
