The airlines keep discontinuing flights to the SDQ. AA now only offers flights from Miami. Used to be Miami, New York and
San Juan. Other airlines have reduced flights to SDQ also. Now that USAirways is gone, the Philly flight is ending soon also. Punta Cana is the sole reason for the increase.

Not so........

A lot of flights now from South America into SDQ and more seats to San Juan. Added to which Iberia is back.

USAir stopped operating last Saturday morning...

The PHL-SDQ flight didn't go last Saturday.
All PHL-SDQ flights now go through MIA.....

That's what I found when checking

Dominican statistics have a margin of error of 99% and 99% of the additional revenue will be stolen by the politicians. Where does all of this new tourism money go? To multi million condos in Miami for politicos? Please arrest and properly prosecute these thieves. If a Dominican politician accumulates great assets but never paid tax on any of this wealth, it it not an open and just case?

You forgot to say that AA has increased flights to Punta Cana and jetBlue has many more flights to SDQ , Put together with the new flights of Iberia and Air France and the new flights outweigh the discontinued flights

under normal circumstances, a cruise ship passenger is not counted as a tourist. by WTO accounting procedures, a tourist is a person who spends more than 24 hours, but less than a year, in a place that is not his or her usual abode. they can do this for pleasure, or for business purposes. cruise passengers who spend a few hours in port are not considered to be tourists.

Business organizations, both public and private, tend to over inflate their estimates of the money cruise ship
passengers spend during stopovers. The reality is they buy trinkets after hitting 10 stores in one hour to find
the cheapest DR trinket (probably made in China) and head back to the ship. They are fed 5 times a day aboardship and don't bother frequenting local cafes and restaurants. Would you? The high rollers may buy a beer or
two at a street side bar and people watch while their better half shops for trinkets but that's about it.

Aha!... Dec27... that's why you're flights were so cheap.....

check the peak travel dates - way higher.... week before 12/25 & week after 1/1

We bought them in May, and the direct flights were almost full already. We stay in NJ to spend Christmas Eve and Day with our kids and grandkids, and then we get outta Dodge.

I'm just saying that your week - between Xmas/New Year's - is a lower fare than weeks before & after.

Christmas Day and New year's day are dirt cheap to fly -- for those who can
I used to make my Australia daughter n fly 1/1- saved me $800 or so

The reason why la Romana figures are down and will probably stay that way is the fact that the beautiful Coral Highway now runs directly from the Punta Cana Airport to the la Romana and the Bayahibe turnoffs and it is less than an hour to both . There are daily AA flights from LRM and jetBlue flights two or three times a week , some charter flights to Italy and many private flights ,but that is about it . Will always just be a small airport .
