There is a u.s. company doing shuttle service in punta cana, GreyLine. Wonder how things are going for them as there is fierce competition.
lets see if they can figure out who to corrupt.,
Uber seems to have a aggressive legal team. how they managed to move thru other major cities is a testament of growth. If the potential is there , they go after it. Is the DR big enough for Uber to pursue?
Dominicans have heard of and work with Uber in all major cities. Dominicans are a big portion of the Livery Cab , Owner Operator Variety, As well as colombians, pakistani, bangledeshi, south pacific immigrants. These immigrant groups, in the U.S. may or may not have college education, but have a need to make money, feed the family, and chase the Dream. These mini franchise on wheels has the potential for making good money, either 6 hrs a day or a full 12 hr shift.
Intresting fact , the Lincoln Town car is the run of the mill, dime a dozen standard Livery/Car service vehicle in nyc, but is considered Upscale, Luxury in the DR ,mainly used for Bodas or VIP pick ups at the airport. I wonder how the Lincoln Town Car would do as an Uber vehicle in the DR?
at 10 miles to the gallon, not too well.

It's probably safe to assume that Uber is not a factor in Smuckmagosh Ohio either. It's a service tailored to larger urban areas with a significant population that needs and uses public transportation on a regular basis. Uber would not be looking to compete with the guaguas or the motoconchos. They want the $50+ taxi turistico business in smaller centres and the the frequent cross town traffic in major cities such as SD. I don't see much of a future for Uber in La Vega.
The DR should bring taxi regulations up to date. Sell medallions, give medallion holders their turf, and require special inspections n requirements. Great way to generate goverment monies. Then have a dispatch based service that is separate of taxi. There are so many ways it can be done with control. Im sure enough dominicans know the way it works in the u.s., so why not convert over to a modern way of doing business.
Most cabbies that are independant owners, get their own insurance, more than 2 cars put to work requires extra insurance like a company,
There is an old white Stinkin' Lincoln Stretch in Sousa, Bobby from Rumba owns it!
You think you can't identify them? It would be insanely simple for a DR taxi union to place calls for Uber cars, and then just sit and wait for them to show up.
How long would it take the union here to figure out how to do that?
But there would be a record of who ordered that uber. CC info, billing address etc.

Today's DR1 news:
Uber is looking for Dominican representative
Uber has been advertising for a city general manager for the service in Santo Domingo. As the leader of Uber in Santo Domingo, the general manager would be responsible for the development and growth of the business. Those who apply need to possess strong marketing skills, with a particular capacity to reach new users and extend the Uber brand to the masses.
