As to the rest of the discussion:
1. Sosua has never been a family holiday destination. It thrives on Sex Tourism
2. The local economy and employment depends on this tourism. Putas get their hair done, buy clothes, food, etc. Their Johns spend money. business is very slow now, locals are hurting $$.
3. The Govt. will not keep it's eye on the ball (no pun intended) for too long. These crackdowns have come and gone too many times before. What is different this time? Only the names of the bars.
4. ccccccccc where are you?

Punta Cana was never a family holiday destination until they opened up acceptable resorts. Otherwise it is a really boring area that could be in Florida.

That is something the government wants to change. The government does not like SEX TOURISTS. They give the country a bad reputation and this time it seems like the desire to change is serious.

No way to predict the future, but it is true that history often repeats itself.
4. ccccccccc where are you?

CCCCCCC is probably having a proverbial heart attack.

DRob mentioned living in an AI for extended periods...
The idea has merit.

When I used to get posted somewhere on a project for 2-3 months , I never considered an apartment - always a monthly rate at a hotel or motel.

Daily maid service, TV&Cable , phone (pre cell phone) full security.

In fact my old friend in Toronto , Pres then Chairman of Labatt's and the Blue Jays always lived at the Royal York , never had an apartment.
Clothes in the closet - same room all year round - for 20 yrs or so.... true story.

Easier than owning/renting

Not a bad idea

Eventually, he left in a dispute.

Trudeau was coming and they needed that whole floor.
He agreed but warned that he would move out... don't touch my stuff, I'll do it.... type of thing.

They moved him... he left.
Went to the Palace Pier on the same terms.

i think those apocalyptic predictions are greatly exaggerated.

there is a recently elected diputada who used to be a prostitute. she hopes to revolutionize government's approach to combating prostitution. she's already proven to be very effective in her role as a regidora, by opening learning centres to teach hos news skills and help them leave pu**y trade and move on to regular jobs.

http://www.diariolibre.com/noticias...revolucionar-el-congreso-dominicano-AC4271398

looks like an approach that can work. prostitution will never be eradicated but it can be reduced and the ladies of the night can move to better jobs and better lives. small steps.

I'll have what he's ^ Smokin!

looks like the closing on PC is not going well with everyone. in DdR:

It would make a whole lotta sense to do something about getting those kids off the street. IMO seeing those kids is more of a disgust and an eyesore than women out in the street.

detras del rumor also picked on that since the latest sosua mess started:

Very true, but they aren't broadcasting their exploits on the internet. They also blend in because they live here and don't have a party hard vacation mindset.
These 2 groups are apples and oranges.

I wonder has anyone heard anything from the mayor or the mayor's office, an statement, perhaps to explain and clarify things, for or against, doesn't matter.

The events of last few days have effected almost everyone in Sosua, locals, expats, tourists, businesses, but we have not heard anything from the mayor (unless I missed it).

I don't know, you can say this is all done by the central government ministries but why the local government sits on the fence and just stay away from it all, not even a comment ... !

It would be nice if they say something, anything, they are suppose to be somewhat responsible for this town as elected representatives - well, you would think.

Your thinking like a N.A. or European. The local government needs the money from the central government to do any project the want. ( think kickbacks ect ) They won't do anything to upset that relationship.
The transition from one type of tourist will be a slow one, if it happens at all.
As much as it changes it stays the same. So the party moves to a new bar at a different time. No big deal. What elected officials want and what happens doesn't always line up.
The business owners need to know the season and the market that visits during that season. Be flexable, and adjust as best you can.
The sky isn't falling. Unless they mess with the main beach. But if they try , you will see riots like the last time they brought in bulldozers. It will be ugly. Changing the main beach will destroy Sosua. That's just my opinion folks.

Not too much sex please, we are catholic you know......

I certainly stand corrected. I admit if I make a mistake. Any woman can go any where in Cabarete any time they want.

Now back to controlling the prostitutes in Sosua.

You certainly seem to be selling Cabarete's moral stand. Hope it's not for condo rentals.
Go down a side street to the beach and there is a bar with 5-10 girls seemingly working and hanging around.
Being girls from up and down the N.Coast, the fact that the crumpet is sitting in Cabarete the price starts at USD 100. You know Cabarete is premium! Yes and some gringos love to pay it, one girl mentioned ? 300 as an appropriate price. Don't know if they charge extra Cabarete IVA tax and 20% tip on top? I think there are rooms conveniently located in the back.
Prostitutes from Rio San Juan, Sabaneta, La Cienaga/Cabarete, La Union, Villa Liberation, Monte Llano, POP, Imbert and the list goes on.
Prostitution is alive and well in Cabarete and has been around for a long time.
Granted it is not as much in your face as in Sosua!
Let the DR government do as they will in regard to prostitution in Sosua and elsewhere.
As about half of the pop. of the DR is female, anyone with a modicum of intelligence should be able to score anywhere. Generally Dominicans of almost any age enjoy sex and are no blushing violets. Of course being stout catholics a certain sense of decorum is generally required in public.
One thing the DR government is not going to do in the foreseeable future, is to increase public safety, control crime and corruption.

Also, I have been told that the primary consumer are Dominicans themselves. They are the smart ones. They go indoors where the ladies are checked and no one would be the wiser.

Plus, I have only been to Sosua once and I wanted to throw up at the quality of whores that were walking and parading their skanky selves.

Even in red light districts in other countries, the ladies of the night do business indoors.

Ever been to Thailand or Germany? Plenty of outdoor action.
Prostitution is legal in Germany and much of it is NOT in red light districts.

Nope. Never been to any of those places. I can't really say that the outdoor action is legal in those other places but we are speaking about Sosua. Something about a street whore rubs me the wrong way. (pun intended)

Of course we and our parents are decent people, not like those........you know

"Sex Sells", doesn't it?

And that is just what the powers that be are trying to stop in a manner of speaking.

Now back to driving those hookers indoors whether it works out for the better or not.

And sex is the reason why all of us are here on this planet.
To be honest I would not miss some of the ghoul's (especially the gringo version) in Sosua.
But rather a whore monger than a war monger....... not to mention the fish mongers!:classic:

Market niche?? time to reconsider spending power for gov.do

pretty much all of the people who I know and who fall in this category are pretty regulars with prostitutes. some of them have monthly budgets for it.

This is true and funny!!
Where else would a retire and snow bird have so much fun so close to home?
Keep them coming and staying long.
