the "finishing" is actually more work than simple cement construction, both in terms of time and cost. tiling, installing bathrooms, windows, doors, decor.... it is slow and expensive job. with less than 3 months left to launch they should be well into this part of construction already with at least few show units completely finished.

He argued that the small hotels promotes sex tourism, even t-shirts that were sold before with the emblem "Sos?a no Problem" have disappeared from the market and this greatly worries because "we are selling in international markets as a paradise for the aberrant practice allowing prostitution in the world".

[/I]

Good article. How does "Sos?a no Problem" translate to sex tourism? It could be presidentes, brugal, or just hanging on the beach.

I would guess that "Sosua" itself is the trademark for sex tourism so anything with the name of the city is promoting such.

I am told they have tons of experience here and an army of hard working people... But I think DV8 your correct. There is no way in heck that a five star resort can be opened in January without a ton of projects left to be completed. I was looking around on how to book a room at this place a month ago and did not find anything. Not sure if the owners were very confident themselves with the announced opening date. I hope this place is a success, but I am extremely doubtful. I hope it does not put a black eye on Sosua in the end. The resort is fighting a bad location, has an unclear concept and no name brand flag. I doubt it will be a true 5 star resort as well.

They are still working even in the rain but it looks like just the inside jobs.
I just get the impression that somehow someone seems to know what they are doing this time. The new tiles and blocks are already delivered and there was actually someone taking inventory of the deliveries!
This doesn't seem to be the usual 'break it down and wait' scenario,
The tricky bit will be to find enough skilled artisans for the installation work but there is definitely some thought gone into it.They couldn't start right awayit seems, as someone posted, due to some local by-law paper which hadn't been done (paid off I guess) but they are pulling out the stops.

I do hope it works out.Would be great!

just to clarify, i did not want to be a bitter betty, my questions were out of curiosity. it's a big project after all, it should be starting to wrap up. there are also pools, restaurants, landscaping, lot of work to be done.

I think you are being objective in your reasoning. They are in the last three months of a refurbishment project and finishing work should be well underway. No one should doubt without understanding the project planning that a great deal can be achieved in very little time with the correct resources and working hours., assuming availability of materials. (I don't buy into the labor resources not being available in the DR!....they are).

And frankly in DR the contractors are very capable and have a very good track record at turning jobs in on time compared with other locations regionally. If the planning is right it is possible.

Seems some other posters are so anxious for failure and that is downright wrong when an open hotel early next year will transition from employing construction workers to hotel workers and all the numerous trickle down jobs. The recent job fair says to me that the planning is right and the new employees should be getting training now.......the better resorts start training staff some three months prior to opening.

Wishing the construction team well.

These guys really seem to know what they are doing. The wall is going up at a speed I've never seen before. That's good thinking to get it done before the precious stuff arrives.
The roofs and re-modelling are being re-done as we speak and it all looks 'organised'.I've some experience in Hotel maintenance and refurbishment from Africa so I know what they are facing.
I'm still impressed..

--- And that's not easy for me in Sosua!

Another business closing....

Two other businesses that have closed before they really even opened is El Flow in its new location, will not open as per the landlord and also the new thatch roof restaurant near Zoilos has closed and is for sale.
I was out walking this morning and noticed that this Restaurant had life again.

It is (apparently) called... EJ?s Fish ?n? Chips

I came back for Lunch with the Wife (in the rain).

They're just setting up. Cleaner, Carpenter, Electrician.

They aren't ready for English Fish n Chips yet, but they made us a Dominican Fish and Noodles Alfredo.
WOW! Great presentation! Great food.

So... that is one less business closed in Sosua.

About the new Taxi stand building (by Rumba Bar).

Looks nice.
Higher roof (shouldn't have to duck when walking by)

It now has an addition...
They have added a extension porch with two healthy wooden columns.

Question... When (if) they fix the sidewalk there, is there room to actually walk by?
It looks quite close to the Rumba Bar fence.

As an added point....
This morning it looked like workmen where clearing stones from the ?ditch? by D'Latinos.
This is where they would build a curb, if the where going to fix this disaster area.

Question... is the sidewalk construction by (what is left of D'Latinos) about to begin?

The Lazy Dog restaurant on Pedro Clisante will now be occupied by a Cuban guy who will have a Cuban restaurant and a walk-in humidor.
We dropped in today at this new Cuban Restaurant.
They said they open on Nov 18 and will sever (you guest it) Cuban Food. But also with Cuban Music, and Cuban Drinks, but no Cuban Beer.
So no Cristal or Bucanero

It's on the corner of Duarte and Pedro Clisante
Kitty?corner from the older/smaller Playero Store

More or less the same unique recepies as from the DR kitchen, the Suriname kitchen etc

The same unique recipes... That cracks me up....The real question is, which cuisine is more bland than the other. Two islands that spice forgot.

I was in down-town casino till 12 last night and saw a lot of people coming in, not the norm, no idea why. Then left and saw every establishment in the PC is closed ! I was told the police came in and closed everything around 10pm, saying there is a storm on the way.... !?

I ran back home quickly to save myself, but I am still waiting for the storm to come this morning....nothing yet ! lol.

A bit of drizzle last night stopped quickly and no real rain here in Sosua for a couple of days.

I feel for those who do (try to do) business in this town, they never know what is coming next.
