Rocky has a very successful restaurant in Connecticut (Rocky's Aqua). Regardless what happens in the DR, he will continue to be successful.

Big Frank is opening up a sports bar in the next few weeks in Sosua. He'll be Ok as well.

Life will go on for both men. They have money. They have a lot of business experience. Both men have owned a lot of businesses, and both currently own businesses.

Frank, I heard he is opening in Lou's old place. Do you know if that is true? I walked by there a few times when I was up last weekend and the woman (who I believe is the current owner) had NO customers.

Sports Bar in sosua
Do we already have a thread about closed bissnes in S?

Jose O'Sosua's has yet to open, a most excellent idea like yet another bar in Sosua must at least be allowed to open before it graces that page.

With all of that experience in Cabarete on how to remain open, it might actually survive despite the long odds. The future is not predictable.

Is Lou's old place on Ayuntamiento? That old formerly successful Sports Bar?

Lou's old place is on PC, just west of Sosua Lights (CL). Looks like work began on it yesterday.

Yes, he will be opening his bar in the old Shark Bar location--Lou's old place.

I was just with Lou's old NYC partner in Atlanta last week. I spent a week with him running around Atlanta (Lou ended up getting his old NYC badge).

Thanks. I will consider that, along with select areas that have live music where ever that might be. The other places I will just go by and pay no attention.

Mike, with all due respect, i've noticed a long (re-read all of your numerous negative responses to this thread) diatribe of negativity you possess both towards O'Shay's and Rocky's. I'm wondering--and i'm sure you will correct me if i'm wrong--do you possess a bias towards any us, or any bar that does not hire your band--your musicians?

You remember a conversation we had about another mutual north coast musician we both know--and whose constant criticism towards both O'Shay's & Rocky's stemmed from not hiring him? Do you remember me telling you--despite you not identifying him--that only a musician who did not get a gig at our place would harbor those kind of negative feelings towards a bar?

Tell me, in your opinion, why is it that musicians get on a negativity & criticism kick towards any bar that does not hire them? You cannot say O'Shay's did not have live music...because we had live music for 15 of the 17yrs years that we were on the beach.

I noticed that you never have never criticised--with such enthusiasm--any bar whom have hired your musical band? Do you hold any animosity towards the bars that have not hired your band?

And regarding the other musician--which we both know--he has always held a degree of animosity--as well as negative opinion towards bars that do not hire him. This is odd, because Big Frank and I both like him as person, we simply could not afford him....not in the last two years after the beach slowed down considerably.

I notice that you have taken an exceptionally large interest in criticizing both O'Shay's (you said you were there once and was overcharged), and then Rocky's--you did not like the blue roof.

Do you think you might be harboring an unfair bias towards both bars?

And before you get defensive--and i'm sure you will--i don't care one way or the other, i still like you. It has no effect me how you feel about either place. My income comes from outside Cabarete. It always has, and it always will. But again, to reiterate, I have noticed an unusual enthusiasm on your part to constantly criticize both places.

Do you have any interest in managing that spot, or will you be going back to Cabarete when the time comes?

Frank I can tell you when someone approached my wife to play at O’shays the price they wanted to pay was down right insulting. I have never been a big fan of O’shays but thought it was good for Cabarete. I certainly would never go back after what the dude offered her. I don’t care about either people who have owned those places.

I know nothing about this stuff but isn't hiring a band expensive? How many beers does a bar have to sell to cover the cost of the band for the night?

These are solely operational expenditures, and more often than not, most musical entertainment has their own respective group of loyal followers who will do their own fair share of purchasing product.

No that is not the reason in this case at all. Send me a PM if you want a reason in this case.

I did speak to big Frank myself once about playing at Jose O'Shays and the amount he paid musicians was , in a word, ridiculously low. Another musician I spoke to did think the amount offered was insulting and that is not the musician you are discussing that had something against big Frank.. While I don't disagree, that amount offered was up to Big Frank and whoever feels it is worth it to them to play did so. Not me. Supply and demand. But once again, that has nothing to do with any perceived negativity I might have in this particular situation.

Tell me, in your opinion, why is it that musicians get on a negativity & criticism kick towards any bar that does not hire them? You cannot say O'Shay's did not have live music...because we had live music for 15 of the 17yrs years that we were on the beach.

It was Rocky's that did not have live music and is the current topic. My comments were to try and encourage the next establishment to have live music, not to condemn one for not having it. I already responded about Big Frank and O'Shays above. Once again, nothing to do with any perceived negativity you have on my posts. That would be based upon lack of honoring a contract and being foreclosed upon.

I noticed that you never have never criticised--with such enthusiasm--any bar whom have hired your musical band? Do you hold any animosity towards the bars that have not hired your band?

No, but there is one that did hire us run by a lunatic where none of us will every play again.

No. As I said, my reason regarding O'Shays I will discuss privately. The time I was overcharged there is not the main reason. As for Rocky's, they had nothing that I wanted on the menu at the prices offered. Pretty simple why we did not go there.

I still like you as well, Frank. I have no reason to be defensive since I have reasons very different from what you might think with regards to the old business. The new business simply did not have what I wanted and failed to make good on it's obligations if I understand correctly.

Doesn't really answer my question. You trying to tell me those small bands on the north coast have enough followers that will show up at the bar each night they play and buy enough food and booze to cover the cost of hiring them. I don't think so........
