nothing personal Sir, this aint surgery. You want to carry i.d here, USA, Canada, cool. If you are not driving here I say no need. I live, work and travel all over the island, never ever was asked for i.d FYI its not against the law to talk to a chica on any street here no matter what town you are in. Actually its not against the law to walk up to a chica and say "how much". No need to be paranoid here with I.D , passport etc, that's all Im saying. Mentioning involvement in a crime adds a whole new dynamic to the conversation

As long as you don't need to conduct any business or drive a motor vehicle or carry a legal weapon, then ID is not required. I have been asked for ID just when changing money at Caribe Express. Happens all the time.

.....or get in an accident and the hospital wishes to contact your family or laying in a morgue and they don't know who to contact to claim your body, or wish to check into a hotel.

Just seem silly to ever walk around without ID.

When you have lived your whole life without ID, it's hard to get in the habit.

It must be very hard to carry that thing with the rest of your money and debit card. One of the hardest things to do in this Earth.

Finally figured one thing out, it was a moderator being snotty to me. At least I didn't expect any better from Rey.

Keep picking on me and I will get to 500 posts in no time.

I think the general idea is carrying an ID is not something you need to be stressed out or overly worried about.. Everyone knows that one needs an ID when driving or conducting a business transaction. The police are not going to detain you here if you don't have ID and they cannot detain you in the U.S for just walking around w/o an ID

You shouldn't either slowmo. You make 3 posts and then you make a few decisions about community members? It's all good, bud.

exactly.....if you are american losing your SS card and medicare card is a major problem... then you get to spend at least 1 day in Santo Domingo ...at the wonderful American embassy, dealing with those wonderful young Dominican men that work at the Social Security department...at the end of the day he tells me my new cards will be delivered by the Dominican post office in Santiago?....I said what Dominican post office, he then yells at me..if you have a problem with the post office call the government and complain......if you wait for the post office here dont hold your breath........

...Fish... thats be attempted will no results..........

Had a kid bump against me three times in La Sirena. The third time i stepped back and came down hard on his foot. He apologized and disappeared. I assume he was just starting out as a pick pocket, but he didn't get mine!

Tell that to the guy that spent 23 days in confinement after ICE picked him up and decided that he was illegal. He had presented his Texas I.D., Social Security card and a wallet-sized birth certificate.
