Agree 99% right up to the "back home they can pick up girls from their own bars/discos".

If you take a look at these men they are often losers who never get anywhere with girls at home.
Back home they have a low level job, no education and they come down here to be king for a week.

They go home broke but with plenty of cell phone pictures to show their pals on the job.
Wonder how many end up in divorce when the little woman gets into their phones.
These are the kinds of guys who if they are married it is not for long.

Here for a few bucks they can have a night or two with girls who would not give them the time of day at home.
Using the pics they can relive the fantasy over and over until they put together a few bucks to come back.

now there is an understanding of a situation...great posting, zoom...

a lot of these girls we see on Pedro would be way unavailable for most of those guys back where they come from. so, they live in a quasi fantasy world when they spend their 4 days in Sosua. the attendant noise and bluster is their way of saying..''look at me..i am a high roller''.

then they go home and pay off the credit card with minimum payments..

I used to wonder why these Jet Blue types never flock to Santiago?? They absolutely love the lighter skinned Dominicans, so it would make sense to ply their trade in the Cibao region. I don't think the "Pimp Daddy fantasy" would go over to well in Santiago or the Capital. Also, their lack of Spanish and culture makes it even harder.
Some like fishing in a trout barrel instead of stalking largemouth bass in a large lake.

The hunt is what is difficult because it requires skill, knowledge of the species and perseverance.

I know a few who spend a lot of time here in Santiago.
If there were a strip of bars, clubs and cheap motels in
a safe area.. I think we'd see a lot more of them spending
time here. Unfortunately the areas of town which do have
small strips with bars, clubs and cheap motels are very dangerous,
therefor unlikely to happen anytime soon.

There used to be a few clubs, but all got shut down and owners facing all manner of charges.

Except it's more like snagging bluegills in a garbage can with a triple barbed hook.
Hey some people like eating bluegill, but it certainly isn't trout amandine

this rumor has been discussed here. The chance of Ritz Carlton coming to Sosua is almost zero. That's a 500 dollar a night hotel minimum. Not enough guys to fill those rooms. Plus I don't think the Ritz is chica friendly .)

It is NOT a Rumor. There was a press release by Marriott.

The Ritz Carlton Reserve is not in what you would think of as Sosua. It is not in "whore central". It is at La Boca, considerably east of Pedro Clisante and east of Cabarete center as well. So you are actually correct that one is "not coming to a hooker area near you".

Or, BIG, am I "wrong yet again" as to the location that the Marriott themselves announced for the planned resort? I know I am not incorrect based upon the press release from Marriott. Will it be built and will they come? That does remain to be seen.

Work is on going at the one site located in Sosua. Really, really close to that center of discussion.

there was a thread about the rumor of a Ritz in Cab east by the river. Aint going to happen. As for one being built "on going" in Sosua ….lmao .. Marriott is not going to put their premiere flagship hotel in Sosua, maybe one of their lowly Residence Inn. or Sheraton four points chains. Their premier properties are the Ritz and St Regis ,.check out the standard room rates

Have you been to the site that was called the Ganesvoort? I was there last week.

The Ritz Carlton Reserve site at La Boca was not a rumor, it was a press release by Marriott.

But then, I must be wrong, as always.

The Dominican Republic’s northern coast is about to get a transformative hotel investment.

Marriott International is planning to partner on a $350 million project in Puerto Plata that would add three new luxury resorts to the area.

That would likely include a Ritz-Carlton, a W and a Luxury Collection property, according to Herve Humler, president and CEO of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.

Marriott is partnering with the Ocean Club Group on the new Dominican Republic resorts.

The Ocean Club Group is best known as the developer of the recently-rebranded Ocean Club on Playa Imbert, also on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. That property was originally known as the Gansevoort Playa Imbert.

And the new Dominican Republic resorts will forward the group’s aims of establishing the north coast as one of the premier luxury tourism destinations, said Ian Schembri-Saint, CEO of the Ocean Club Group.

Marriott International and the Ocean Club Group are set to partner on the project, which is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs in the area, according to Dominican officials.

According to Ritz-Carlton President and CEO Herve Humler , the plan is to target upper-echelon luxury travelers — and “bring them back to the Dominican Republic.”

Bojan Kumer, vice president for hotel development in the Caribbean and Latin America, said the project would help “completely transform the north coast as a luxury destination.”

“This is formidable news to close the year in Puerto Plata,” said Dominican Republic Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia.

The northern coast of the Dominican Republic has already seen a wave of luxury development in recent years, most notably with Aman’s Amanera luxury property on Playa Grande and the recent relaunch of the Playa Grande Golf and Ocean Club.

It’s also home to the Casa Colonial, arguably the Dominican Republic’s premier boutique resort.

The developers have not yet given a timeframe on the project.

Seriously big? I thought you were on the up and up about Sosua. This press release was sent out about 6 months and the work on the Sosua Marriott has been ongoing for months now. It's all over the local news.

No, they are working on direct teleportation devices as we speak.
Airports will no longer be needed.

Seamonkey, Big has been paying attention to other things, I suspect.

Well, they better do something....it has to be the worst experiences I have had in any airport I have been to. You get 2 flights in at a time and it is overwhelmed. It is a hell hole.

Maybe a rich guy special line?

They have one.

Spend a night at Aman's Amanera hotel near Playa Grande.

Direct through immigration, no line. Have a seat in a comfortable lounge and a cocktail or soft drink while your luggage is retrieved, then direct to your waiting private Escalade

It's there.

. . . I say let the government close every single one of them, then
we'll take a look at how El Batey is doing in 6 months without them.

Pedro Clisante will be a little less crowded than it is today, and El Batey "entero", you will hardly notice.

Please explain to all of us which businesses in Sosua are not in some way, shape or
form taking in money which trickles down from this "world's oldest business"
and the tourist who come for it.

"Sigma Industries", right in the middle of Sosua on Rt. 5 with approximately 300 employees.

When I flew my 182 into POP, I was met by the station manager and guided through a separate immigration & customs area.
