Although I did see a group of 7 persons (2 Dominican activity coordinators and 5 middle age women) bicycling out of there about 10 AM today. However based on a visual perception of the physical condition of a couple of the tourists, I expect it will be a short ride in this heat.

Judging from your criticism of the appearance of everyone from ladies of the night to middle aged tourists, I assume you are some kind of Adonis! :classic:

Totally agree and glad to do it. No woman wants to frequent Pedro Clisante selling her body. Poverty and other social issues force her to make that choice. Their plight is compounded by the abuse they receive from police and that includes high ranking police officials. I had conversations with some of the ladies who frequent the resorts. The simple act of taking the time to listen to them opens a door to me beyond their protective emotional armour. I’ve seen a fair degree of intelligence and beauty in some of them. Some are fiercely protective of their family and co-workers. They all want a normal life. The same desires as women everywhere.

No doubt they are motivated by poverty, although many have the latest iPhone and if you were to check their purses many use drugs too.
Had two neighbors here one year that got their cocaine from the "poor girls" on Pedro Clisante.
And while many don't want to sell themselves, many eagerly adopt this lifestyle and would reject an 8-hour job since they can make easily 4,000 pesos and a quick meal with a customer in a couple hours. And if lucky they might get monthly Western Union remissions.

You are right many of them have personality and many also have a man at home taking money from them when they return, since he's too lazy to work or his lady's work pays better.

I don't think getting rid of prostitution is a desirable goal but cleaning up two blocks of the loitering would improve the image so Sosua would appeal to a wider range of tourists. Just take the show off the sidewalk and inside, and require the girls to sit and buy a beer or soda like other patrons.
Then other non-hooker Dominican or expat women might not refuse to come into town after nightfall.

Please
explain to all of us which businesses in Sosua are not in some way, shape or
form taking in money which trickles down from this "world's oldest business"
and the tourist who come for it.

Casa de Arte. That's one. How many you want? G - lots of sophisticated chicas hang out there.

Like Windy said....50,000 people, seriously?

i was not questioning the sophistication of the chicas. i was wondering about these archdukes and barons who were in attendance before the Jet Black crowd interloped.

A lot of people talk about 15 years ago and compare to now, blame it on various things. My angle is not the race or the country or even the town these guys coming from. I say it is to do with age... !

15 years ago we had older crowd mostly retired and staying for more extended period of time, they were discrete, quiet and well-behaved. Now we have younger crowd, coming to party hard for a week and back to work. They are loud and show-off, have no problem snapping a selfie with their $30 hooker on their arm, and can spend all they have in a few nights and back home again.

You can't blame them, that's what the young do, even the chicas here love it, they are also young and want to party hard and hang out with younger guys, all normal. No matter which country or race you are from....

But of course this does not go down well with the oldies, they are not invited to the parties and the bars/discos music is not to their taste. They don't like the loud and show-off attitude, and can't stand what the the town has changed to, their playground changed to someone else's playground.

What I wonder is why so many young come looking for these trashy hookers, back home many of them can pick up girls from their own bars/discos .... !? This is a more worrying thought for the society and what becomes of these guys when they go back - can they still form a relationship with a girlfriend/wife and have family..... !?

Yes indeed, a Brad Pitt doppelganger

Does being a duplicate of Brad Pitt include his alcoholism, drug use and abuse of his own family that Brad has publicly admitted led to the failure of his marriage to Angelina Jolie?

Got a failed marriage or two to go with your being an identical copy?

wonderful posting...

it is , as you say, a matter of styles. black guys save up for a time to come down to Sosua and party hard. look at them in Playero, filling the shopping cart with Chiroc and Grey Goose. these are not the old geezers of 15 years ago, quibbling over the price of a fria. i saw a black guy from Toronto go into Mangu one night and buy a case of champagne, keep a bottle for his table, and give away the rest. it is a matter of styles.

yes, they are loud, and boisterous, and unrestrained. but the chicas love it. they are young, themselves, and want some virile young guy to bounce them off the mattress all night.

It is laughable that men who live in Sosua for only one reason and it is not to play golf show concern for the image of Sosua.

Anyone here know the actual common sense reason the Mayor wants to move all the business's and the girls?

The thorn here is that she wants the business owners to pick up the tab for her morality!
Or is it something more real than image?

If the city wants the move they should pick up the tab for the whole thing.
I do not see any business owners wanting to move.
In life you want something YOU pay for it.
In spite of what a few posters here think and constantly type there really is no free cheese.

That's the point.

I doubt they can. Too much work, too little game, too much competition, and they can't hide who they really are.

A week in Sosua lets them indulge in their Pimp Daddy fantasy...then back home for another 6 months of incel.

Agree 99% right up to the "back home they can pick up girls from their own bars/discos".

If you take a look at these men they are often losers who never get anywhere with girls at home.
Back home they have a low level job, no education and they come down here to be king for a week.

They go home broke but with plenty of cell phone pictures to show their pals on the job.
Wonder how many end up in divorce when the little woman gets into their phones.
These are the kinds of guys who if they are married it is not for long.

Here for a few bucks they can have a night or two with girls who would not give them the time of day at home.
Using the pics they can relive the fantasy over and over until they put together a few bucks to come back.

That is not how rezoning works.

Eminent Domain, perhaps, but that's apparently not what is happening. Sounds more like a rezoning thing.

Are you back to posting just to be contrary?

"Rezoning, eminent domain"???????
How long you live here?

In the DR those with the money and political connections buy what they want.

The rules and laws in this country only apply to the poor.
One of your minions was here complaining of corruption in your backyard, Jarabacoa, and he is a pillar of the community.

What on earth are you talking about?

Certainly lack of enforcement is a problem here, but try to build a house without proper permission and see what happens.

Sheesh.

And, yes, rezoning and Eminent Domain are different issues. Rezoning="you can't pimp prostitutes here, the law says so." ED="We will buy this property from you even if you don't like it."

Perhaps the government really is serious this time.

These are not your run-of-the-mill hotel chains..

Are these the ones that were talked about before? I can't remember. But I think that this is how infrastructure improvements will get done. There will be push back from the top down.

A large hotel chain will not allow unfinished sidewalks to be left as is near their new building. It will get finished. Same with water, electricity, hospital, etc. etc. Money talks.

I love the smell of diesel in the morning.....

Dead on. Also, the money flows in after they have left their holiday. Many of these mongers regularly send their chicas money through western union. All that money is 100% filtered back into Sosua via.....nail salons, hair salons, clothing stores, colmados, cell phones and so on.

100% Filtered back into Sosua??? 100%???

NOT EVEN CLOSE.

The overwhelming majority of prostitutes WORKING in Sosua, do not live in Sosua. The majority who visit will cram themselves in, three or four to a room in Los Charamicos, Maranatha, Sosua Abajo, etc. They work the area for the weekend and are gone. That fast. Sure they spend money for their rooms and some necessities, but the majority of their income goes back to Puerto Plata, Santiago, Santo Domingo, etc. (See gorgon's post about how full the buses to Santiago and Santo Domingo are).

And especially the money they receive at Western Union. They cry to their clients during the week when they are back in Cienfuegos with their Chulos getting high and drunk. When the money arrives at Western Union they roll out of bed, get on a motoconcho and head straight to the WU office nearest their home. That's where they spend most of the money they earn, not in Sosua.

I used to wonder why these Jet Blue types never flock to Santiago?? They absolutely love the lighter skinned Dominicans, so it would make sense to ply their trade in the Cibao region. I don't think the "Pimp Daddy fantasy" would go over to well in Santiago or the Capital. Also, their lack of Spanish and culture makes it even harder.
