Hey weather person, what have you heard about a cyclone tonight or tomorrow ?

Cyclones are in the Pacific. Here in the Caribbean we do have hurricanes but living on the north coast in Puerto Plata we seen to be in an area where they do not give us much of a problem.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said a tropical wave over Puerto Rico could become a tropical depression any time Friday as the system moves toward Hispaniola (Dominican Republic & Haiti).

Hey everyone - sorry for the long absence, but I am back. A combination of no internet at home, brutal hours at work with NO internet access kept me away.

The weather - today was HOT, HUMID and breezy. I expect the same tomorrow......

I will try to update mornings............

Have a great day.

Two more days of hot and damn humid but with a breeze.

There are more storms out there and it looks like clouds and rain might be headed here after the weekend. I will keep you updated.

Have a great day.

Good morning - it is HOT and very HUMID today with a nice breeze - at least where I am. I am hoping for a bit of rain later to cool things off.

Lots of electricity problems in Puerto Plata - I feel sorry for locals with no backup power options - no electricity - no fan - no relief from this heat. A little rain might cool things down a bit.

Reminder to those coming to visit us soon - the kids have gone back to school and are in desparate need of school supplies! Please help by bringing what you can.

Have a great day.

Sunday August 24

Again - HOT, SUNNY and HUMID, with a good breeze. It is a great day for the beach or a pool!!!!

Yesterday we finally got a 10 minute downpour, cooled things off for a little bit and cleaned up all the dust!

Have a great day.

Well we got the rain and some wind but nothing serious here in Puerto Plata. Today was overcast with rainy periods. Tomorrow is likely to be very similar.

Have a great day.

It is pouring rain as I write this. From my balcony I have an incredible view of the city and it is completely clouded in - not over - in. Literally it seems we are in the clouds. We have thunder and lightening that is shaking the building.

It should pass in a few minutes though! At least I hope so.

Earlier it was sunny and hot with a high humidity level.

Have a great day.

Saturday August 30

Good morning - looks like we may have a mixed bag of weather today. While it is sunny now we have some clouds building up off to the east and that normally brings some rain later in the day. So, get out there and enjoy it now.

Yesterday was mostly sunny, very hot and humid!

Have a great day.

Monday September 1

Good morning - well Hannah has not really effected us here yet. Yesterday was hot and sunny with a nice breeze. I was fortunate to spend the afternoon poolside with friends and I have a lovely pink glow to show for it... Ahhhh more sunscreen.

Today we are clouded over, almost hazy conditions and very hot and humid. It is dead still, not a hint of breeze. Maybe we will see some rain later!

Have a great day.

Hi.

Me and my partner Kate are due to land in The Dominican on the 21st of September for two weeks, we have saved hard for this holiday... any ideas if the weather will be okay at some point?

Thanks..
Should i cancell and stay in Scotland?

Absolutely not! I lived in The Turks and Caicos for 2 years which is about 80 miles in distance..September was the hottest month of the year by far although it is hurricane season and The DR gets hit a little harder than we did. But you are going for two weeks..have a wonderful time where are you going?

Relax, if you follow my weather reports you can see that while at times we might have a day or two of clouds, we are getting lots of sun too.

Today we are cloudy, rainy and COLD - well cold to those of us who live here and are climatized!

I will assume this is the fallout from the storm just north and west of us! Hopefully it clears today and we return to hot and sunny.

Have a great day.

Hard to say but I will tell you a little story, just had coffee with 2 gentlemen - one who has lived here 14 years and one who just arrived Sunday for a two week holiday - he is from England.

One gentleman is cold - like me - the other thinks it is almost balmy!!!!

For visitors - nice and comfortable - for residents - chilly......;) I think it is about 25 C if that helps.....

I was in Sosua El Batay where Amber Guardian has a time and temperature gauge high up on the building which indicated 30 degrees (C) at 10:25 (am). So, it might have been 25 - 26 earlier this morning, which I thought was a bit cool as well! Probably the rain is what is making the cooler temperature more noticeable.

I know this is about Puerto Plata weather, but don't forget about the rest of the Western part of the country.
Santiago is heavily overcast with intermittent rain showers throughout the night and so far today.
From viewing the "hurricane display" map, it would appear thet the ENTIRE Western part of the country is getting hammered also.
Heavy rains in the Northern Central Cordellera indicate that there will be plenty of flooding along the Masacre, the Yaque del Norte, and other tributaries from that area, so we can expect extensive flooding as a result in the Monte Cristi , Manzanillo, and other environs. There will also be the same scenario in their hinterlands.
HANNA is sitting just to the East of Great Inagua and is pumping moisture into both the DR and Haiti at a terrific rate if one is to interpret the IR map correctly.
