Real? The DR government does not care if another whore monger ever comes into the DR. That is what is real.

They obviously have enough of both in country.
Indeed,
They need no foreign help nor instructions, as they are more than capable in this department.

It is also obvious that the government does not care about dilapidated Sosua, Cabarete and the North Coast.
Also tourism on the North coast is of not importance.

The Bulk of tourist $ is going to Punta Cana.

I remember that big hotel and casino just east of Sea Horse Ranch, it's being reclaimed, by trees, vines, humidity and salt air., But hey, a Ritz Carlton is coming soon.

The on dit is that the list wasn't PC specific, just hooker bar specific. I hear that Bourbon St., as it's the same owner, has already moved to AHNV, as the anchor for the new Hooker Mall.

I guess if they install a few stripper poles the set up will be complete.

I'm curious: how many here will refrain from visiting Sosua, or will move away from Sosua because of this "urban renewal" project?

I will, at least for now.
Used to go twice a year since 2002, but I won't return until things settle down and there is somewhere to go at night to have a drink and people watch.
I'd rather go to a place that isn't shuttered down and has police raids going on around me.

The government did care enough to bring in the fiscal and military the other night and close down some bars and discos in Sosua. It is not like they don't care at all. Just not very much.

As for the push back by some saying what is or is not legal about the closures. Good luck with that.

As for the once again abandonment resort between Sosua and Cabarete. You mean the old AI resort that had plans to be renovated and was coming soon and is now coming never?

The people behind that were Luis Abinadar, a major charter airline (Tui if I recall, started with a T and if it was Thompson, you know what happened to them) and one more partner I cannot recall, but I think they have a major metal business in Santiago and the rest of the country (Estrella, I think they are called). They were working on the renovations, and wanted to bring into the country fixtures and supplies that would actually last more than a month or two and Customs told them what they would have to pay and they pulled the plug. The person I was speaking to about that resort was in charge of getting it built. He said getting people to work properly in the DR was like herding cats. He became frustrated well before they pulled the plug and left the island to work another project where people had some sanity. While that re-development effort might have had some influence on what happened in Sosua at one point in time, that influence disappeared when the plug was pulled.

There is no Ritz Carlton coming to Sosua. The Ocean Club is being built where the Ganesvoort used to be at the end of Calle Ayuntamiento over looking the Ocean. Work is under way.

Why do you insist on repeating things that are not true? The correct information about the project at the Gavensport site have been explained to you here multiple times.
Or possibly your just testing a presidential campaign strategy?

This opens up more questions. Blue Ice is not on PC, but directly in front of Sondabar. Directly on PC are 4 puta bars that were not closed down. Diamond Lounge, Mamajuana, the puta bar next to Mamajuana (next to elefante rosa) and the puta bar next to Britannia, which is owned by a Dominican Lady who is an ex whorehouse owner from Boca Chica. Did they concentrate only on the bigger bars in this round? or are they only concentrating on expat owned bars? All of the bars closed are expat owned correct, except for El flow.

Also not closed down (I believe, although I haven't been there since the purge) were Schlemmerstube and the bar of Hotel Central, both of which were popular "contact points". These two, along with Sondebar are all German owned, I understand. Interesting!

Perhaps if you forwarded your concerns to the Fiscal, they could return and evict another set of businesses?

It is possible I suppose if the "nightlife" doesn't relocate to the east end, and remains where it is not wanted because the remaining establishments were not closed along with the others, their longevity in their current location could be revisited.

It is not a terribly complicated process to rezone a business out of existence.

Try to keep up! It has been posted right here that Marriott is building "luxury brands" in the area "Puerto Plata region". While I still don't believe a Marriott brand ie: a sign that says ( similar) "JW Marriott", maybe I have been pushing the envelope as it pertains to Sosua for sarcastic affect maybe I haven't. I also remember it being posted that the new hotel that is now hooker central was going to be the new shining star of the Caribbean. What an absolute hype scam combination. There has been countless pump and dump projects on the North Coast, so I do have a certain level of sarcasm and suspicion when ever I read about development.

Obviously.

Will you see a JW Marriott logo in Sosua? I have no idea if that logo will be on it, but it will say

Ocean Club

I suspect there will be a Marriott logo somewhere as well.

Here are some examples of Ocean Club properties:

You are such an incredible Sosua visionary. Could you please tell me when the families are coming to Sosua?

Could be that one motivation of the rezoning is *because* of JW Marriott investment.

Careful, simply ASKING that Question automatically Labels you as a dirty wh*re Monger, who "cant accept Reality".

Yet no one can tell us WHEN and from WHERE these " families" are coming ??
When it is an accepted Tourism FACT that Punta Cana will get 90% of any additional NEW Business .

when , indeed .

Who knows? North coast tourism is not going to return any time soon. Once the luster has died, it does not return. Do let me know if you see any Dominican families in town.

I do suspect there will be a few less whore mongers, but then the new location might turn out just fine as their new stomping grounds.

Even if the $1B investment by Dream City is 1/10th that amount, that is certainly enough to clean sweep the streets of Sosua and put a few new Jeepetas in the hands of those with power.

Building all of these condos, hospitals, shopping malls, and cinemas will eventually create jobs, and both skilled and semi skilled labor is required to build them, you need maestros to supervise the $1.50/HR employees.
