The accepted category these days for countries like the DR is middle-income. The DR is classified as upper-middle-income. 'Second world' is more or less obsolete because it originally meant the Eastern bloc countries pre-1989. So First and Third World are also falling out of use and are too simplistic a way to categorise the rich and poor countries, as are binary terms like developing/developed countries, or North/South.

Revising the state of the global situation works for some, not all.
