Why would they stop a flight out of the DR? Unlikely to happen unless there are too few people on it.
This thread is really about allowing people into the DR.

I know, the title of the thread could more accurately read "When will the DR be accepting tourists again?"
Our flight on June 5th is still a go into POP. It has changed a couple of times since I booked it. Originally we were scheduled to fly into POP on the 4th, but have to overnight in Miami now. We shall see as the date approaches and the outcome of today's request being granted by the Government.
i have a flight from Boston to Santo Domingo May 23 on JetBlue. My original flight was May 8 on AA but they cancelled the flight when DR govt decided to extend the state of emergency to May 17. Guess we will know soon. I’m a legal resident, not a tourist

International travel can have flights with multiple connections.

My friends have we been in the DR for over 19 years. They are permanent residents. Not citizens. They were trying to get back into the DR the beginning of April. They flew from Canada (I believe the Toronto area) to Punta Cana. Before they were allowed to board, the airlines verified with PUJ airport they would be allowed into the country. They electronically sent all their resident documents to PUJ. The airport in the Dominican said that they would be allowed to enter the country. But after they arrived they were not allowed to get off the plane by a policeman waiting at the door of the plane. He was told that they would have to return to Canada. They made calls to the local branch that takes care of their missionary work as well as to a couple lawyers but in the end they were told that the Dominican is not excepting residents to return. They did allow the one other passenger on the flight Who is a citizen to finally get off the plane after about an hour. My friend and I have been keeping in contact over the past month about both of us returning to the Dominican. I am a temporary resident. I have only been gone for over two weeks and my first flight back last week was canceled because of the extension of the state of emergency.

Excuse me my friend just corrected me. It was March 19 they tried to enter the DR flying in from Canada. A couple days after the state of emergency started and borders locked down

The DR isn’t a 3rd world country. It also has the fastest growing economy in the entire Caribbean and Latin America for over the past decade; this includes Mexico and Brazil...

For people from first world countries, you sure don’t read, research, or educate yourselves much. Assumptions and feelings. Logic out the door. Smh. Lmao.
This is an insane comment to state that the DR is NOT a 3rd world country.

Do you want primary sources to put your insane comment to rest? I can have you speak to many Dominicans who are hungry and borderline starving.

They do not eat on a daily basis and were it not for the support of donations which are sporadic by nature they would have physically starved.

Do you want to speak to them so you can stop lying about the truth concerning the DR? I'll provide you with numbers if you so wish.

The DR is a paradox because they are first world in some aspects, developing nation in other aspects, and third world when it comes to sewer and water infrastructure and basic education is somewhere between 2nd and third. You can't use one word to describe the entire country. I have been in a number of third world countries and the DR is leaps and bounds ahead of them in most aspects.

I think Mr deal is confusing a part of the population, as he mentions Los Cazicazcos in Dingo. He is green behind the ears and claims his home is in the Bahamas. In the sector of Dingo he mentioned may reside, a few of the 3%ers. I'm certain there are various key socio economic ratios that determine "3rd world". One of them is the distribution of wealth. Don't confuse that a small % of the population driving around in late model luxury autos and living in high rise luxury buildings as a mark of 1st world. The laundered money that fills our banks and floods the streets devalues the currency. And the old school money is certainly not for the masses' welfare and pension plans.

The accepted category these days for countries like the DR is middle-income. The DR is classified as upper-middle-income. 'Second world' is more or less obsolete because it originally meant the Eastern bloc countries pre-1989. So First and Third World are also falling out of use and are too simplistic a way to categorise the rich and poor countries, as are binary terms like developing/developed countries, or North/South.

The world’s Middle Income Countries (MICs) are a diverse group by size, population, and income level. They are defined as lower middle-income economies - those with a GNI per capita between $1,006 and $3,955; and upper middle-income economies - those with a GNI per capita between $3,956 and $12,235 (2018). Middle income countries are home to 75% of the world’s population and 62% of the world’s poor. At the same time, MICs represent about one third of global GDP and are major engines of global growth.

According to your link, when the seemingly politically correct World Bank places both China and the Dominican Republic in the same category, that category begs for refinement.

That in my view.........is "too simplistic."

Most of that stuff is based on old, erroneous data. Please see this book, a great read:

I was pointing out the definitions in use nowadays, which have replaced the obsolete first, second and third world labels.

It is also imperfect. China is indeed in a different economic, social and political league, together with other emerging giants like India, Brazil and Russia:
BRIC is a grouping acronym referring to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China, deemed to be developing countries at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development, on their way to becoming developed countries.

But this is a digression from the topic of the thread so let's leave it at that.

O/C you were not born here within the RD, this we know.
You inherited this, that, and the other thing...….congratulations.
Please explain where exactly your oasis currently is, you know.....just for sh*ts and giggles. 🙂
