No I didn't suggest that I just said I don't vote.LOL.
Jamaica has a LOT less cases than DR (even proportionally). They didn't play, had 24 hr curfew for Easter, cordon off the parts of the island with the most cases, etc...

magically after the elections everything is going to return to normal.. my flight for june 4th is still on for MIA to POP. hoping if not cancelled I can just pay the immigration officer if there is any trouble, only time will tell

So, why would normal tourists travel to the DR en mass? It seems mighty risky for the general traveller at this point.
How many people actually get travel insurance? I would never consider it. I'm not sure it's really that prevalent.
Everybody had a chance to go home. Everybody are responsible for their own actions. If you are covered by local DR insurance, I believe they cover covid. But good luck to try to sign up for insurance now.
If you are a risk taker, or have really deep pockets so you can do self insurance, all is good.
The following information has been updated on the Embassy Santo Domingo COVID-19 website:
- The Dominican Republic has 17,572 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 502 confirmed deaths.
- The President of the Dominican Republic extended the State of Emergency for an additional 12 days. The curfew will remain in place through June 15th. The curfew hours remain Monday through Saturday 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., and Sunday 5 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Ferry flights continue to be available through Jetblue and United Airlines. Contact the airlines directly to make a reservation.
I think local health insurance covers for Covid. I don’t know about the international ones.
