Tourists don't stay for 6 months or years.
You're right again windy. My problem is I "don't read nor understand" as you have duly noted. Correct. Carry on and read the law as it is stated line for line. Clearly you are RIGHT!. What is written between the four corners is well . . .I am not going to spend any time here explaining " but in the "spirit of the law" it means. . .Over to you. I'm done on this subject bc I have no skin in this subject. I don't overstay by choice.

I agree. Without hesitation. Done.
You can take that to the bank. Solid gold. Did you read my subsequent post? Also solid gold. Well, sort of. Read it with an open mind and count me out of this subject. You are by far a scholar on this matter. This subject must have been on the citizens. exam. Am I right?? En serio.

If they were smart and organized, they could do exactly that and collect all taxes by credit card.
Like this they could collect on renewals in perpetuity.

Of course in organized countries once a permanent residency has been issued it is exactly that - Permanent!
A one time process.

If they don't like that just issue a yearly tourist visa ( for preferential counties) and charge for every renewal.
All countries have differing visa requirements depending on country and agreements.

Not true in the USA. Permanent Residency has to be renewed every 10 years.
excerpt

Once your petition is approved, you will be sent a new Permanent Resident Card valid for 10 years. And then you may file Form I-90 to renew your Green Card when your card is has expired or will expire within 6 months of the expiration date.

It is important to keep your card up-to-date. If you have an expired Green Card, that is considered an invalid card. And if you are carrying an invalid Green Card, it may be difficult for you to prove that you are a permanent resident. This may affect your ability to travel or to prove that you are eligible to work in the United States.

Do you overstay through no choice?

In my 1st post I said "the government has no responsibility towards me at all", meaning if I don't have the residency I can't ask for any government assistance (financially). But everyone knows this law is made for Haitians (maybe they'll use it on Venezuelans too), this is not for people coming from Canada, US, France, Italy, Germany... What happened in Sosua a few years back was some low-level idiot not knowing what to do, and the Minister of Tourism apologized afterwards. I never heard him apologizing every time they fill up a bus full of Haitians and dump them across the border.
Right, Haitians only. LOL

Haitians don't arrive in the DR with 30 day tourist visas and have an option to pay overstay fees that have no basis in DR law when they leave.
Haitians were already constantly rounded up and deported (with a slight interruption cause by CV19 since this March).

But sure, the new minister of MIP and the PRM's new man after 16 years of PLD rule was talking only about Haitians. LOL

nothing is disappearing here only thing that disappear is the tourist
Tourists stay 30 days or less on a tourist card as the DR law currently defines a tourist. There were up to 9 million such tourists per year before CV19.
How many "tourists", as in illegal aliens by DR law, exceed that 30 days?

Your definition of tourist may differ from the DR governments, but we have to go with the DR governments law on that.

Have you had your coffee yet. I'm coming by later, we're gonna make you that red sauce. Sicilian style, saffron and cinnamon.
johne said " I don't overstay by choice."

I asked if he overstayed by no choice. One could assume he spends less than 30 days in the DR each time he enters the DR on tourist card,
or he might overstay through no choice of his own. You must a bad early day attempt at humor.

Now back to illegal aliens being deported. It will surely only be Haitians. Anyone else not obeying the DR laws well never be affected, only Haitians.

LOL

I cannot imagine cinnamon in it, but ya never know.

In a couple of weeks, we will know what new minister is up to if anything (only the Haitians? LOL) .
Less than a week away from a big change in the government.

I doubt he will come in like a lion. Im sure we can expect movement on lockdown and virus logistics, they already foretold their immigration intentions. Will be exciting though, personally for me I have sat through 16 years of PLD and I met Jose Rafael A. way back. I think this will be very good for DR (meaning new administration)

That is 137 years. Please get that right. Minus 120 years.

Perhaps everyone will be able to better read for comprehension in the future.

The citizenship exam had no possible questions about exit fees because the exit fees are not part of any DR law.

When the PLD replaced the PRM 16 years ago, I had high hopes and the bar was set so low by Hipolito Mejia that any change would have been an improvement. For a short time it did seem better.

Then the corruption just grew and grew for 16 years. Time will tell if the new PRM is indeed better.

Papá had a dismal record but a favorite of the folks in the campos. Education saw improvement in the last 16 years though.

Have a look at the video of illegal Haitians entering the DR.
The immigration laws have to appear to be applied to all, in order to avoid international protests of discrimination,
And to keep international aid coming in.

You can be sure the DR gov. is not greatly concerned about US, CAN and EU citizens.
Abinader already stated that the US connection and relation is of the utmost importance to his gov. and the DR.
CAN and EU was also mentioned along with Brazil.
