So if you buy a vehicle in the DR, imported for the DR, then the model year claimed by the dealer, may not actually be the "real" model year.
Its really a 2012, but since we didn't sell it till 2013, we are going to give you a matricula saying its a 2013.
Another reason to import your own vehicle when possible.................

Some vehicles manufactured in some countries are the same box (design or refresher) as an older model, which already got replaced by a new box. This happened a lot in Asia. They just kept the same box and added some new finishing to the trim.
DR received plenty of them. Up until 2016 in the Asian market, both the universal and Asian VIN codes were fully in use. This meant that vehicles manufactured in Japan (I.E.) and sent for extra assembly or finishers to other countries, received extra or altered digits in their VINs.
After 2016 this stopped all together as the time to discontinue as per guidelines there, came into effect. Until 2016 you can come across a lot of these old VINs in Asia. I think it had to do with the final assembly manufacturers and finishers getting their own codes assigned.
Case in point the XTrail T31 was continued in some markets for two extra years under the newer year model. They try to extend the need for retooling and the new dies setup as much as possible in some cases.
It’s simple to match the newer vehicles post 2016 as the cars made after that year, couldn’t be coded any longer with the older Asian system to the benefit of assembly builders and finishers.
If you want to learn something interesting look up the Toyota Rush sold in the DR...
