Which then begs the question how/where did you came up with information you supplied in post #21.

The OP's info indicates it as a 2013 model year and gave the VIN. The information you supplied indicates it is a 2012 model year.

And please do not try and confuse the issue as to when it was manufactured...................that is irrelevant. The model year is the model year............and not necessarily the year of manufacture.

Playacaribe2

The VIN he provided was run into one of my alternate decoders for Asian vehicles.

Since it came back invalid in NA vin decoder...

The model year of the car and the car body don’t match.
OP detailed 2013, but car returned as 2012 on Asian decoder. I further looked it up and found the reason why after matching the T31 box against the T32 box.

Up until 2016 in the Asian market, both the universal and Asian VIN codes were fully in use. This meant that vehicles manufactured in Japan (I.E.) and sent for extra assembly or finishers to other countries, received extra or altered digits in their VINs.

After 2016 this stopped all together as the timeline to discontinue as per guidelines there, came into effect. Until 2016 you can come across a lot of these old VINs in Asia. I think it had to do with the final assembly and finishers getting their own codes assigned.

But who knows?

As for your universal timeline? That was introduced by the USA and quickly adopted by Canada at the time, any vehicle entering the US market had to comply or was blocked import.

All other suppliers followed up, but retained their own way of doing biz in their existing non-USA/EU markets.

Much more importantly with final assembly car importers with their own brands, as well as finishers. If you think that’s something, you should know the Middle East is riddled with finisher’s codes left and right.

Can be hard to tell here in RD..... when cars sit on lots a while before selling

I bought a '2009' Suzuki XL7.... 6 mo left on the guarantee.... sold originally at SDMotors

The door sticker read July 2007..... car must not have sold until 2009
Matricula everything reads 2009....
Go figure

Similarly, there are many XL7's running around the country w/ the VIN door sticker removed
I have seen one
Perhaps to obviate the 5 yr rule..... dunno.

If you want - we can try running my Isuzu MUX.... another non-NoAmerican vehicle

Give us all more to debate....

Hit it!

In the DR for the Year is always best to match the box (generation design and refreshes) to obtain true model year.

So if you buy a vehicle in the DR, imported for the DR, then the model year claimed by the dealer, may not actually be the "real" model year.

Its really a 2012, but since we didn't sell it till 2013, we are going to give you a matricula saying its a 2013.

Another reason to import your own vehicle when possible.................

And to think all WW wanted to do was sell an SUV.
DR1 should change it's name to Cliff Clavin's Sorry I Asked Forum. I'm pissin myself laughing.
I can see why the classified section closed. Can't for the all the expert opinions and building code recitals if anyone wants to sell a house here.

Some vehicles manufactured in some countries are the same box (design or refresher) as an older model, which already got replaced by a new box. This happened a lot in Asia. They just kept the same box and added some new finishing to the trim.

DR received plenty of them. Up until 2016 in the Asian market, both the universal and Asian VIN codes were fully in use. This meant that vehicles manufactured in Japan (I.E.) and sent for extra assembly or finishers to other countries, received extra or altered digits in their VINs.

Case in point the XTrail T31 was continued in some markets for two extra years under the newer year model. They try to extend the need for retooling and the new dies setup as much as possible in some cases.

It’s simple to match the newer vehicles post 2016 as the cars made after that year, couldn’t be coded any longer with the older Asian system to the benefit of assembly builders and finishers.

If you want to learn something interesting look up the Toyota Rush sold in the DR...

Not my business..............not even a shameless promotion..............................but I have clients buying/selling into the DR market from the US.

None of my clients import autos specifically made FOR the DR market................but they do import TO the DR market.

What appears in some cases to go on with the Matricula in the DR, for cars imported directly for the DR , would be called Fraud in the US.................but in the DR..............its just another day in paradise.

Good luck with your 2013....or is it a 2012?

It is a nice looking vehicle.....whatever year you call it.

This suv will sell easy here. It’s in great shape and paint looks fantastic.

Year is what the matricula states. No much to do about that given the facts.

If posted in Corotos it will sell much faster...

IMHO

Got it......good to know. Its what the Matricula issued by the government in the DR says (2013), not the information you posted (2012) by running the VIN and the information supplied by the manufacturer.

Glad you clarified that issue......LOL.
