And rest assured that even after the pandemic is over, some of these travel restrictions will stay in place permanently.

Your days of good old normal traveling are over.
The good old days of travel ended many years ago. This will just be one more thing on the list of things to do be before travelling.

People who think that the mandatory hotel quarantine is delayed, cancelled, just a threat, etc. are in for a rude awakening.

After seeing Trudeau`s press conference today, it is a certainty.

A rare glimpse inside Calgary's COVID-19 isolation hotel, as travellers share concerns | CBC News

Trudeau defends 'medically based isolations'

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked Tuesday how he responded to the complaints from the two travellers.

"I think it's extremely important to make a clear distinction that these aren't detentions; these are medically based isolations," Trudeau said.

"We are not detaining people. These are public health measures that are necessary to ensure that we are keeping Canadians safe, particularly given the arrival … of new variants in Canada, and extensively around the world."

Beaulieu was eventually allowed to go home after spending three nights in the hotel. He tested negative for COVID-19 on Jan. 27 and was released the following night.

Vanegas was allowed to leave on Jan. 30, after the full 14-day quarantine. He says he's healthy and back home in Edmonton. He said he has contacted a lawyer to discuss a possible claim or lawsuit.

Trudeau said three days is the average length of time for the federally approved polymerase chain reaction (PCR) COVID-19 test to be returned, which is why it's the expected amount of time a traveller might have to spend in isolation at an approved airport hotel.

But if a PCR test came back negative more quickly, they'd be free to go if they could self-isolate for the rest of the mandatory 14 days as required at home, Trudeau said.

Yup, the UK is going high speed and full throttle towards the New World Order and what it will mean to travel in the near future.

And once a precedent is created you can expect other countries to follow suit.
There are subtle and not so subtle differences between the UK and Canada.

The pandemic has had a much more devastating effect on Britain than Canada.

Boris has a solid majority and is still riding the Brexit popularity wave. Trudeau is trying to keep his minority government cobbled together until a Spring or Summer election.

He doesnt have the same degree of latitude as Boris.

I blame the tens of thousands of selfish a-holes who violated the mandatory quarantine and the government who gave over 40,000 warnings.
The honour system was not working and the government didn`t set the proper precedent and send the right message by throwing the book at them.
Now everybody has to pay the price.
Everybody paying the price is going to work about as well as the honor system.

Talking to my Cdn friends , places like Home Depot are closed to customer traffic - except online

So you order online, then go pick up...... an hour or more in line waiting your turn.

I suspect this is gonna be the new normal of shopping in most stores... Order and pick it up outside the store... Can't even see it and touch it first before buying anymore.

We have a small, local Hardware Store here (Northern Ontario) that has a table outside the front door. You walk up to the table and wait for someone to come out to talk to you. You describe what you want. They go inside to get it. They come out and show you, then take your $$ back inside.

But.... this morning it is -31C with a windchill of -47C.

That is no place to live. Add Trudeau on top of that and how can you stand it, eh?

So are the Covid 3 day , 2,000 looney stays upon returning actually happening?

The provincial premiers browbeat the Feds for rapid Covid testing technology. The Feds spent millions on development and supplied the provinces with the testing technology. CBC reported that all the provinces shelved most of the testing machines and only use a small percentage of the capability. Many provinces use less than one percent of the capability. It could be used to get people back to work and reduce testing waiting times at airports. The Feds are no better. The Health Canada recently approved one hour result portable LAMP test could be used at airports for returning Canadian DR tourists. That would eliminate the need for the $2000 Covid concentration camp fee except for infected travellers. Infected travellers would go to fully funded government designated isolation facilities. Federal fear mongering appears to be more preferable than Science. Ontario is pondering cancelling the March break school holiday and Quebec is considering setting up road blocks to prevent people from travelling during March break. This is getting insane, especially when the infection and hospitalization numbers are dropping significantly in the hardest hit provinces.

I truly believe the whole idea of the $2000 lockup was to deter the spring break crowd. If all those people got out of the silliness of these lockdowns and enjoyed themselves for a week in the sun (or wherever), the CDN government would not be able to contain them upon their arrival back home.

Once these idiotic charges that are being laid finally get to court I think you will see most of them dismissed. The Governments of the world have embarrassed themselves beyond belief but they can't stop doing stupid stuff as it will show just how wrong they are.

Agreed but with 85% public support and most saying not enough being done in Canada , I can’t see courts throwing anything out..
