I felt the same way................but they are becoming more and more feasible everyday.
With the government incentives, and EV's solving the range question, it will really come down to charging availability.......and they are working on that right now.
The number of electric SUV's coming to market is staggering. Don't get hung up on "fragility," many of the EV's are using ICE engine body platforms.
The new Ford Lightning and the recently announced Rivian truck should take the truck market by storm.

The Ford Lightning will be far more affordable...............but still not cheap.
The Rivian currently prices out at close to $70k.
With the current tax saving incentives for electric............a new Ford Lightning will be cheaper than a new Ford F-150.
Not to mention the savings on a gallon of gasoline versus the electricity cost to charge the vehicle.............as well as the savings on vehicle maintenance.

I learned long ago not to consider buying a new vehicle if I have to finance it. I can't convince myself that I would ever buy a used electric vehicle either.
I've got three older vehicles in good condition, and it doesn't take much investment to keep them that way. That's not going to happen with an electric vehicle.
I have bad dreams about buying an electric vehicle with a depleted battery, and wouldn't even hazard to guess how much it would cost to dispose of a bad battery, nor how much a new battery would cost.
Worse, the way the technology is advancing, imagine trying to buy a new battery for a 3-4 yr. old car only to discover it's obsolete technology and not available anymore.
If I want to drive a new car I'll rent one for a few days.

I'm building a new house now and will include a solar charging station, be ready in six month or so. Your welcome to come by for a free charge, but must bring me a six/pack of diet-pepsi, it has disappeared from Playero
But to be honest Im waiting for a good PHEV (like Rav4-Prime) or the new PHEV Kia Sportage. That will give me a daily driving range of 35-40 miles (that's a few days for me) and if I need to go to the big city put in a little gas.

Up until two years ago, I would have stood firmly in your camp.
The changes are so dynamic and fast moving, pure EV's now have a place at the automotive table. They are no longer just for the tree hugging California crowd, they have pivoted to the mainstream.

They are the canary in the automotive coal mine.
I could cite lots of reasons to avoid EV's (and did)......................but there are now fast becoming more reasons to consider them.
For sure the DR may well be a bit slower in their adoption...........................but even acceptance in the DR is growing fast.

Plenty of companies are in the world. 95% reclamation rates are claimed with only a 1% loss of capacity in the batteries made from the recycled lithium.
That would be a bit premature. Eventually Haina could be that spot. A good suggestion for those looking at "what could they do as a business here."
How long does it take to get a full charge?
If everyone is driving these electric cars how long will the lines be at the charging stations?
Depends upon the level of charger and your E-car. Fast chargers will tend to degrade some cars batteries, but they are working on that.

Tesla super charge stations are 15 minutes once you are hooked up.
Sounds fast until you consider that's about double a gasoline fillup.
And most charge points aren't supercharge sites.
If you are going to Santo Domingo and the hotel has a charge station that is open all night you are good. But since most hotels only have a couple spaces now as EV cars proliferate competition for chargers will get fierce.
