For the Sosua crowd, I think the German restaurant on Pedro Clisante has ice cream that is pretty good.
Schnitzel Paradise, great ice cream. The last time I was there I brought my "girlfriend" and the owner told her that cell phones weren't allowed at the dinner table,he wouldn't take her order until she holstered it in her purse,I'm laughing while smoke was coming out of her ears. One precious Sosua memory.

Paletas Bajo Cero is a recent creation by a few Venezuelans in SD. I think they are still available only in the SD area.

I've found them to be really good, and a great idea. Fruit filled too. There's one in Downtown Center.

Did you know...
Helados Bon was the first to introduce the franchise business in the Dominican Republic.

Helados Bon pioneered social corporate responsibility in the Dominican Republic -- working with macadamia planters to keep the trees in the forest and create profitable farming for others outside the company; also when they launched their coffee ice creams, working with the farmers. They contributed heavily to the Quita Espuela Mountain scientific reserve in Duarte Province (San Francisco de Macoris), a major source of rivers that was hurting badly.

Helados Bon Vainilla Imperial was created when the Jaragua Renaissance reopened for their inauguration, in cooperation with the top management of that hotel.

Helados Bon as a company invested heavily in their staff and today many of these have gone on to become entrepreneurs themselves.

What made the difference was that the Moreno Family never cut corners with quality. It was always quality before profits. Even today, the Colombians have kept the recipes the same.

Helados Bon does not sell in the United States because of the dairy industry restrictions to imports.

Tip: Take a recipe for banana flambee, replace the bananas with very ripe papaya, and use as a topping for Vanilla Imperial. Delicious!

In a recent trip to La Sirena in Puerto Plata my wife stopped to get , wait for it:
An ice cream cone with one scoop of vanilla and one of chocolate from sad company with 50 years of endurance. She offered it to me and I tasted
what was supposedly chocolate. It had almost zero chocolate flavor. When she go to the vanilla part
she remarked how poor that tasted. That ice cream was worse than mediocre.

Can you post a YouTube of your band playing at The Schnitzel Festival so we can review, thanks.

Anyone can come and take a video. It isn't my band. I have not had The DRopouts for quite a few years.
It is Dick Lupino and Island Breeze. Farewell gig tonight at El Choco since Dick heads back to the USA soon.
I am just a side man and one of the "Breeze". I do have a One Mike Band option for me alone and I might do that
in the future. There are far fewer places to play than musicians wanting to play them. Quite a chance from when
Cabarete had tourism.

Does all that have something to do with mediocre high priced ice cream?

It sure does, but I am subtle.
