Hijo, you're completely misreading my posts. If you don't pay cash fees on your credit or debit card - good for you. That is not the case for many card holders. In your post #92, you responded "all of the above" when I asked where is the money coming from - credit card, debit card, bank account?

Sawman never indicated how he sent the money(?).

I never said anything about sending money FROM W.U. here in the DR. I mentioned sending money from a W.U. location in Publix TO here. Only $8 to send $900 and the transfer is in minutes.

My point was, when sending USD from your bank account in the US and received USD at a W.U. location here, I don't think any of these services can beat W.U. It looks like maybe Remitly comes close(?).
Ok I guess I forgot what was written in those numerous redundant posts, but anything over 500 USD to The Dominican no fee with Remitly. I believe there's a nominal fee for dollar-dollar

Yes but why would you send to yourself in a location when you could send in the name of a trusted errand person? You can also cough up another dollar and they send it to your house.

with Remitly you can send anything over 500 with no fee from them. I would never want a sizeable amount in a Dominican bank. Maybe they do a Ban Inter on you when you least expect it!
"Trusted errand person" - 😂🤣😂 It wouldn't be the first time a trusted person disappeared with a lot of cash! Or crashes doing a wheelie and then gets robbed.
I'm in Janet's almost every day. Easy peasy. Thanks, but I'll pick it up myself.

Well, to be fair, you're not going to meet your trusted errand people at the Mojito or Lax Bar 2-fer-1 all u can eat hotwings Happy hour while listening to ABBA's or Neil Diamond's greatest hits!

The fee is 0.8% plus $2.99 or $3.99 when sending and pickup in USD. This looks just about the same as W.U. How long have your averge delivery times been? See how easy it is when you post actual facts and figures?

Jesus man, I just said I think there's a nominal fee for dollar-dollar! I really don't know because I always send to pesos like Sawman said 57.something last time I sent. I thought 58 but he was right. You need to go to that happy hour and loosen up bro, winde may be playing, he's quite good!

And to be clear for the unbanked or otherwise financially unread, the Remitly fee is a whopping 4.99 up to 500 dollar-peso. No fee over 500 for dollar-peso.

I asked you that very question if post #88 about how you received it(?). Reading comprehension is essential!

If you're sending $1000 USD and receiving in pesos, you're losing 1000 pesos every time. I prefer not to lose 1000 pesos every time I send a grand down here.

How when above 500 USD is free? Dude you win. Some may want to use Remitly it's cheaper and faster than WU at least for dollar-peso if you're a banked citizen. Some will go stand on line at WU. Not much more to say

There's no fee when you're sending more than $500USD and receiving in DOP - but you're losing on the exchange rate. I said in my very first post that W.U. is terrible when you're specifying pickup in pesos. You still have never answered how long it usually takes to receive your money with Remitly?

I usually go to my bank with my Schwab debit card. I pay zero fees. I get pesos and a better exchange rate than anywhere around here. Most gets deposited right into my peso account. AFAIK, only Schwab and Fidelity offer this, so it's not something that's available to everyone unless you want to open a Schwab or fidelity brokerage account.

It's free if you do 2 business days send. I pay 4.99 for under 500 dollar>peso. it's almost always available within 20min, with very, very few occasions taking longer. Idk about Schwab debit services from any of their funds. I don't do discount broker stuff.

Hopefully Ive answered your questions. As I am on a break from booze, I can't even down a glass of whiskey which I desperately need after this exchange. I do admit however, I personally dislike WU

It was like pulling teeth, but, yes, you did. We now know that Remitly can be a reasonable alternative IF you're sending money from your US bank account and/or your debit/credit card doesn't have a cash advance fee and doesn't jack up the interest rate on cash advances. Either way, receiving the money in USD is the best option since, even though there are no fees when sending more than $500USD and receiving in pesos, you will lose on the exchange rate that Remitly gives you.

It's really not as complicated as you make it sound with all this language. I open the app and there's cash and someone picking it up for me in 15min. If WU gave no fee and great exchange rate, I still wouldn't use them, let alone stand on that ghetto line at Janets

There was nothing complicated about what I said. Basically, don't use a credit/debit card with Remitly unless it has no cash advance or jacked-up cash advance interest rates and you'll save money receiving is USD instead of pesos. Pretty simple.

Long story, but I only used W.U. for a couple months and no line at Ruamar. I now use my Schwab debit card with ZERO fees and I get a better exchange rate than CaribeExpress.

Just got back from Caribe Express having sent $700 to myself by Remitely. $4.99 fee and a 58.46 exchange rate.

However...they shorted me 22 pesos. I'm calling for an investigation.

Also they ask questions, assuming I'm staying at a hotel. I'm not and my Spanish isn't good enough to converse on the fly, so I just made a hotel name up. No problem.

Just curious....has anyone had trouble withdrawing cash from their US bank via Banco Popular? Someone at the store mentioned a conversation in the BP branch in Sosua that there was a known issue with international transactions but I haven't seen anything online to support that. I've had no issue for 3 years withdrawing from this same branch against this same account, and my US bank says it doesn't even see the attempted transaction. Anyone know anything about this?

I never use Popular because of their higher fees. I did just use a BanResevwas ATM today with no issue

Thanks for the info. The BanReservas branch in Sosua makes me nervous, the ATM isn't indoors and not sure it's watched 24/7, if this isn't resolved tomorrow though I'll give it a shot. TY
