Understood and apologies if I took things OT. The point I think I labored is that there is a price war going on and that's why Airbnb is suffering.
No problem...as for the price war, not sure. If you mean cheaper hotels, I just did not see that when I was making hotel reservations last week. Rates tend to go up and down depending on the time of year. As for the AI's, there always seem to be deals at one time or another. IMO it all comes down to the type of property you want to stay at and what price/service level. You mentioned in your post you were trying to decide between Case de Campo, Hard Rock, Royalton, Viva, etc...that is a wide price range and service level. Airbnb prices seemed to be pretty much the same over the board,

Casa de Campo was selling at US$ 1950 for 5 people for 2 nights, which is also very cheap for them, all inclusive

I am here with kids for a birthday celebration. The Embajador would not have been a good choice for this trip. We wanted a party and our idea of entertainment stretches a bit further than sitting in an expensive hotel and spending the entire day posting bitchy comments on DR1.
I wouldn't mind lounging in an expensive hotel, sipping on Macallan, with a massage by the lovely Rosa Linda, while posting bitchy comments on DR1

The chef just made a massive paella which was delicious. Remember we are talking 3000 pesos per night per person all inclusive.
lol, A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for posting that gem.

There is a wedding here tonight. The tab has to be 50 thousand U.S minimum. They have an elevated structure assembled, and a tent installed in case it rains. The pool guy said it was for 200 people. The band is a classical singer and violinists. These are not arbnb people.

I can imagine, I have seen (attended some also) some really nice weddings at the Embajador over the years. As I posted previously, my brother has a place in Cap Cana, but he does not advertise it on Airbnb. There is a private rental management company that handles that. They "vet" the would-be guests as much as they can to minimize issues. If there are issues when the guests are there the management company handles everything. He has never really had any major issues but then again, he does not rent it out that often. Honestly most of the people that stay there are business associates, friends, etc...

Violin and cello are my favorite instruments. Maybe they the wedding players will perform a rendition of André Rieu and the lovely Carmen Monarcha's collab of Habanera ❤️

André Rieu is a benchmark for wannabe connoisseurs and despised by classic purists lol. But he is a great entertainer for the simple airbnb type crowd, so I am confused.

André Rieu reminds me of the time shooting a backstage documentary about his first show at Schönbrunn palace in Vienna and all the preparations around it. It was a massive production. Those were some interesting weeks. I had to delete some footage because it was undermining several myths.

I have a friend who had a wedding in the Jaragua with about 150 guests.

They had the top 3 DR bands at the time, a church choir for music, and 10 white naked statues on pedestals - 5 ea. men and women. (Did I say naked?) who did the whole shebang motionless.

Food was Filet Mignon with Maine lobster and crab legs.

When my brother's youngest got married, he had the reception on the waterfront (Boston), tug fireboats spraying water (I thought that was impressive), and the Beach Boys for entertainment.

I was one of the first to get into ARIBNB as a host helping my wife do that.
We were turning down 3X the amount clients we could host.
They were almost all good people and we had no problems with them

Then AIRBNB became a monster. They had asked me along the way to be their north coast representative.
What that meant is they wanted me to recruit more hosts that would be my competition in exchange for a change
to win a trip to France. I knew that getting more people as competition was bound to happen and did not want to
speed up that process. (and we have the other thread about Dominicans getting EU visas...)

Now the market is saturated and that causes some hosts to drop their prices. Supply and demand.

The clients got steadily worse over the years. Some people should just never leave their safe spaces.
