Both her and the injured son arrived back in Alberta on the weekend. He is still in a coma and they have not released much more info. The go fund me page was at over 56k on a 60k ask.
They mentioned that they returned by helicopter. That does not make sense as It would have to land every 3 to 4 hours for fuel and get US customs clearance for the first landing.
I think they did helicopter from PUJ to Santo Domingo and then a medical Evac jet to Edmonton. Hope the kid makes it.

Higher Altitudes could have possibly killed him, with that kind of pressure on the Brain already .. its quite possible that they had to transport him back at Lower Altitudes, either by low Altitude Plane or Helicopter .. So Helicopter with several refuel stops is plausible .. EXTREMELY Expensive .

They use smaller jets that are capped at 15,000 ft up. Nothing higher esp. with that case. I know I checked the flight tracker, what happened it was they few from PUJ to SDQ on helicopter then transfer to medevac jet and landed at MIA for refuel then flight to CHI then refuel then safetly landed to Alberta.

Guess it would depend on the jet type that was flown. Because there are a number of mountain ranges on that path and being capped at 15,000 ft would barely pass over them.

Santo Domingo to Miami, then on to Dallas , then over the Dakotas into Saskstchewan then turn up to Edmonton. Mostly prairies..

Depends on the route they take Bob. I live out West and I am very familiar with the various routes flights take. This all very off topic.

Pressurized cabins are now available - Surprise. Every commercial jet is pressurized

I think you need to do some Medical Research before you comment in this so flippantly.

Not even Scuba divers fly immediately after Diving because of the Risk .
Someone with Pressure on the brain, If Cabin Pressure DROPS , he is Dead . period .
No one will ever assume that responsibility .

The Low Altitude flight explained the Solution already, why do you think they have those Kinds of Flights ?

The Star newspaper article mentions several improper medical procedures and the DR reputation for exorbitant high costs at private hospitals, How does a piece of someone’s skull get tossed in the garbage? This is another PR black eye for DR tourism and the private hospitals.

I doubt the DR government will respond to the newspaper article. Tourism is at an all time high and their focus is on more resort development. The private hospitals will continue to take advantage of people’s misfortune, especially those with lucrative medical travel insurance.

Medical care is business., it's a product. They are not in it to save mankind. Of course, they want to provide a good, finished product as they get even more cash. It does sound like they saved this young lads life so they are not the savages that has been blogged. No one that is severely injured by a baboon on vacation is going to have a pleasant experience at a trauma center. It is much more hellish than getting a chemical peel at the spa.

An acquaintance from Ontario was a dive instructor. He developed a case of the "bends" off of Cuba
and was extremely fortunate to be close to a US Coast Guard vessel with a hyperbolic chamber onboard.
After arriving in Florida he was instructed that when he returns to Canada, he can only go by vehicle.
He was told he had to follow the Gulf, to the Mississippi Valley, then north 'til he can follow the Ohio River to meet I-75 to Ontario. The elevation in Tennessee and Kentucky could be extremely hazardous. A low altitude flight could be worse.
I'm not a medical professional, but that was just post bends.

How good a product the private hospital delivered at a very high cost remains to be seen. If the patient manages to recover fully, then yes, the price and the improper procedures will be forgotten in time. If, however, the patient doesn’t fully recover because of improper medical procedures or a delayed response time because the hospital staff took time to verify the patient had travel medical insurance, then what they did would amount to a malpractice law suit in the US or Canada. The private hospital in the DR knows that won’t happen and they can get away with the callous treatment of foreign patients, especially those needing emergency medical treatment. Again, how in hell do you throw away part of a skull, knowing full well it is required for skull closure once the swelling subsides? Mind boggling!

he received appropriate medical care! As far as a discarded skull, I do not know what you speak of.
