I have seen it , it usually pops off at the Disco later at night after Dinner . when someone want to dance with the Same girls as Another Guest ..( im assuming thats where the argument starts, cuz they are usually young males like this young man)
Beer bottles , blood , the works .. Ive seen it .. It can pop off real fast .
One time there was so much blood going outside the Disco, and onto the walkway , I thought someone may have bled out .. The Security guys are used to seeing this Nonsense , but its usually not as serious as this one.

People travelling out of their home country should have the personal responsibility to insure themselves, however they see fit,
for their travel plans.

Agreed however knowing this incident/ assault took place at a bar, if alcohol were involved (victim was drinking) no American insurance company would cover the victim's medical bills and I would be surprised if a Canadian insurance company would either.

While travel insurance is good to have, many policies have what they call "riders" which are basically reasons why under certain circumstances they will not cover it. Most policies also have a cap on how much they cover. Having done medical billing, I can tell you they are a pain to bill and worse at paying. No one plans for these things to happen on vacation but one should always be prepared in case something does happen. People when they go on vacation sometimes overindulge which clearly is not a good thing. You're traveling to another country with different laws, different services such as medical, etc. Have fun but know your limit.

No it’s an excerpt from a commonly used set of doctor-patient protocols. I am pretty sure now it doesn’t apply in the DR.

That's not correct. Insurance companies don't discriminate against alcohol involved injuries.
My friend was assaulted in a bar in Castro Valley, California.
He was punched, blindsided, as he exited the bar and he fell on his head on a concrete parking wheel stop.
Went home and in the early morning could not remeber anyone of his family's names.
Insurance had to open his skull to relive pressure, like this young man.
His insurance covered the bill

The Drivers insurance is then no good ? kid of defeats the whole purpose .

NSP. My first five winters in the DR were spent in resorts at the Playa Dorada complex. I’d cut deals for long term stays at the various resorts. I’ve seen and heard it all. I learned to avoid the bars late at night and the beaches during the afternoons. Especially on the day flight loads of new guests arrived. After an early breakfast I was gone in my rental car exploring the North Coast.

Based on what I saw most fights were started by foreigners not Dominicans. Rarely did I see a Dominican man drunk or fighting. Most of the arguments involving Dominicans were at the basketball court or the dominoes tables and a lot of them were good humoured. If they had too much to drink, their wives/girlfriends kept them in check and got them back to their rooms. A few just slept it off under the nearest sun chair until they sobered up. I watched four young German guys spend an entire week getting drunk or stoned in plain view at the resort. I’m amazed at the abuse the human body can take.

Like you, I kept mostly to myself, made good friends with the resort staff that helped me, and enjoyed chatting with the Dominican families who came to the resorts on the weekend. I was up at 6AM to get my run in before it got too hot and hunkered down on my villa patio by early evening drinking cold ones and chatting with people walking by. The career I retired from was confrontational at times. The last thing I wanted was more confrontation when I retired. Probably why Luperon is my favourite campo town. Very laid back and great people.

JD426. I was staying at the old Sunscape in Playa Dorada years ago. Got back from dinner with friends at a POP restaurant and decided to go for one cold one before heading to my room. In the bar were four very big USCG guys on R and R chatting with a few ladies staying at the resort. Three Russian men who had been drinking walked in and things got ugly pretty fast. The resort security guards stepped back and the police were called. They arrived quickly from their office next to the entrance gate to Playa Dorada. Cuts, bruises, lots of blood, but nobody was killed. The USCG guys were around the pool the next day. The Russians were nowhere to be found.

Hence me continuing ask about any video?

If this kid is seen on video pounding down drinks and being the one who
started the physical altercation (tho we've still no proof either way) and ends up being
on the losing end of the event, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but no insurance company
is going to payout his claim.

The likelihood of that scenario I believe is between slim and none.

Yes I think foreigners think they are in a lawless place in DR and anything goes.

I'm sure a lot of people 'f*cked around and found out' as they ruined their vacation by being in jail for starting issues.

Just today a out-of-shape & overweight black American guy, maybe 50 years old, parked in front of Playero in the handicap space while his "girl" went inside. The security guard asked him to leave the handicap space and park in an open regular space behind him.

The American began yelling in English in a very loud voice you could hear inside the store, like he had the right to park there. He shouted at the guard: "Buddy you don't want to mess with me", like he was some tough MMA fighter.

Even though 2 more security personnel came to see what the shouting was all about, a fight didn't break out because the Dominicans were not going to brawl in front of the store.

But the guy in the car should learn the comedian Ron White's guidance after he was thrown out of bar in NYC and surrounded by 6 big bouncers.

Hi everyone so Chase is making lots of progress since we got home on Monday. On Monday they stopped the sedation so he is awake as we speak. He decided to pull out the breathing tube half way out on Wednesday so the decided to see how he reacted to it being out and he did amazing. Yesterday he started talking somewhat. Today was even better.his left arm is not working and his legs are bit of movement. We’re praying that he will be able to use his legs.

As of today Feb 8 he is awake and coherent (plus what scotia said). Still no word on if he will have a full recovery or have permanent injuries. The media here is hung up on the fact that the piece of bone the DR doctors removed to reduce brain swell is missing. Presumably thrown away. As typical with the media they neglect to say that the missing bone tissue could have been damaged beyond repair and could not be put back in.

They are going to have to do either a bone graft of make a piece out of materials that the body won't reject. Either way he is in a state of the art hospital and this isn't their first rodeo. I'm sure his family is extremely happy at the moment.

This was posted just over 2 weeks ago. Bail was set and paid at US$16,000, and passport taken from him.
