I'm sure there are some "gentlemen" in that crowd but it's definitely not a term I would apply to the overwhelming majority. Plus, why would any gentleman want to even be remotely associated with, and hang around in, that crowd?
I would rather enjoy Sosua than AI resorts in P.C where the drunken warehouse workers that frequent the All-Inclusives sit around guzzling, peeing in the pool and vomiting in the hallways.

I think what's more important for most Sosua tourists and residents is how the El Batey end of the beach is going to be developed. I haven't seen any artist renditions on that yet(?).
I expect both plazas to be similar in style. But nobody alive now might still be alive when they finally finish them.

Finally something we agree upon. I have no use for AI resorts.
Maybe someday I will go to Sosua beach more frequently. For now I visit other beaches.

BIG if you read JD426's post about what whoremongers are posting, it might finally hit home for your understanding of the issue.

Have you seen any of the videos these muppets are putting on YouTube? It's not a good look. This is the mental image many people have of Sosua thanks to them. It didn't used to be like this.

So long as Willy and his party are in office, I do not think the overall atmosphere of Sosua and the type of tourist it seems to attract aka The Weekend Warriors...
will change anytime soon with or without direction from the National Government.

I was definitely wrong about this one.
I heard something to this effect but I don't want to post hearsay. I have seen old time videos where all this 'activity' was on the quiet and people were still able to enjoy the beach and town without getting international attention. I am sure many of the older expats who bought property and retired here or started businesses here did not have to deal with the current BS coming from the Youtube videos.

Why this is relevant : I feel that this 'renovation' kicked off because of the negative reputation being gained for the entire town from the creep cammers.
Otherwise, I feel the authorities might have let things be as they are. I might be wrong about this though.

It's just a RCH away if folks can't keep on topic.
Please don't, this is a great way to keep things in one place rather than having multiple threads. This thread is also great as an archive of multiple perspectives on this renovation, why it happened, how it went and how it might go on.

PS: It has been a while since I saw that American unit of measurement Reminds me of a dear ex-colleague from Louisiana who used to mention this when people annoyed him about the aligning images on web pages

To back on Topic
Is there any Big Equipment still at the Construction Site, or has the Project come to a complete standstill?
Last week, one of my friends was driving, very slowly in a traffic jam, to Sosua and showed me the Charamicos end on the call.
It did not seem like there was much going on (given it was like 4 PM over there) and I did not see the bigger equipment.

We might someone who lives in Sosua to chime in. I will there in next month so I can post photos then

It started with the advent of the internet and YouTube and snowballed from there. Santo Domingo also used to be carpeted with dozens if not hundreds of small and not-so-small nightclubs.

I have heard of the SD clubs of old but I suppose all of them got shutdown. In terms of Sosua, I have seen some old videos in YouTube and it seemed people who shot those videos, were having a good time and did so for personal consumption and memories and many of those are private. Unlike the creepcams.
I think someone identified one of those guys but the channel is still around.

I hope the new plazas also restrict this activity informally or formally - for example, there are very few videos of Bailee's despite it being full of women of negotiable affection during day time. If that establishment can enforce this, the vendors and Politur can. For some reason, they dont seem to.

Of course, the current vendors might be ok with it as it brings extra business. and at least one of them (despite being shutdown a couple of times) has a channel that promotes 'women'.

All in all, I hope the renovations finish within this decade, the 'trade' is pushed to the other end of Pedro Clisante (that was discussed earlier in this thread) and I get to enjoy hanging out in the beach before they build condos

I was looking at the “Plaza” construction today. I assume the funny roofs are to be the Bar/Kitchen and the flat area in front to be the Balcony.
I was imagining having a cold beer there. Several thing became apparent.

1 To sit on the Balconies they will need Umbrellas

2 When sitting, you will NOT be able to see the Beach, maybe not even Sosua Bay. The Bar/Kitchen in front of you will block the view.

3 Going to the Beach to walk or swim, will require a lot of stair climbing.

4 The noise from the Hwy is very loud and constant.

One can easily see just how ugly all of that is going to be when it's finished.

There's going to be a lot of people bringing their own beach chairs when they visit the shacks area.

When I get there in a couple of weeks, I am going to see if they have even attempted to build stairs. The incline going up to the highway from the beach at the Charamicos end is when my heart rate spikes to high and if there are no stairs or an elevator/escalator in there, I don't see how older people will be able to get up to the plazas.

Agree wholeheartedly on the ugliness though. Need to get some intel on the El Batey side plazas.

What an absolute DISASTER ... you did more research in just one Visit than the People who are running this Project .
Its as if they never even considered this from the Beach goers point of View .
ALL of those Points you made are absolute Deal Breakers when considering "A day at the Beach".
Might as well stay at the Hotel Pool .

Almost like they want the plazas to fail. Almost like they want the beach to be devoid of beachgoers. Almost like they want to build condos.

They're going to build those condos some day whether the plazas are successful or not. The plazas made that possible. The plazas only take up a small portion of the beach.
Yes. I concur. The plazas being successful are not even a concern to them They would rather they fail, they are built to fail. Their goal was to get everything off the beach proper with as little access as possible legally and to make it undesirable for visitors.
