Stayed in Charamicos lastnight.
Passed by the construction this morning when walking down the beach over to El Batey for breakfast. Plazas are nowhere near the sand. Unless you enjoy lots of stairs, not something most vacationers will be spending time/ money visiting.

Yes. I concur. The plazas being successful are not even a concern to them They would rather they fail, they are built to fail. Their goal was to get everything off the beach proper with as little access as possible legally and to make it undesirable for visitors.
I agree 100%
It is becoming very obvious that it was ALWAYS about the Condos with the View ( I think some of us suspected that early on ) . And they will sell for a Pretty Penny, probably a Million dollars each .
They just dont care about completing this Project, because it was never about " Beautifying the Beach" BY removing the " Eyesore shacks"
although that will be accomplished , but just not for the Vacationers who want to walk on the sand, and swim .. it was the VIEW from the Angle of the Condos they were "fixing".

There's very little beachfront there in front of the plaza to speak of and, unless they cut down some trees, there won't be much of a view of the ocean either. What in the world were they thinking?

It's my favorite part of the beach but many that are staying in Sosua never venture down that far. Cruise ship explorers stop for a beer and a few trinkets?

It looks like that access road is staying so you'll have to walk across it to get to the beach. How many shack owners are even going to want to risk going in that plaza? They'll no longer be on the beach.

Will/ does this access road (dirt pathway connecting both ends of the beach) get a pass due to the 60ft rule and therefor remain open to the public?

This is another very good Question... Is it possible that the developers behind this Project thought they would be FLOODED with Requests for spots in these limited space Plazas , but they now have close to ZERO Vendors actually interested ? ,
Maybe this is why the Project has come to a standstill ..
in other words its SO bad that they cant sell any Leases .
Could they be THAT incompetent .
We had assumed this was a done deal, AND the Cruise ships were going to be in on Action .
Maybe the Cruise ships even said " Nah , Hard Pass, No view , there is nothing special here, its just a Noisy Parking Lot next to a Busy Road " ?

I'm beginning to think that, until the land owner decides he wants to build condos, the shacks aren't going anywhere - and that doesn't appear to be any time soon.

Thanks for your photo..., it shows exactly what they have done...!

This project and photos of before and after like this one can go straight into a book called "Manual for how to destroy a natural beauty spot, and the environment", will be a best seller...!!! ? 🙄

it's amazing how everybody wants to live close to the ocean and have that Morning View with their coffee but after living close to the ocean for a few years and watching everything rust in your house they will move inland

I wouldn't buy a dog house on pre-construction here just ask the folks who invest in Novasco in Punta Cana they can wave goodbye to their money and 80 % were Dominicans

I learnt this 10 years ago, in another tropical country. The apartment was not even that close, but still had all these problems.

and of course, will never buy off-plan, I have read too many horror stories both in the DR and elsewhere

The project has NOT come to a standstill. There are people working there every day but it's just a couple of guys going at a snail's pace.

Agreed.
Yesterday morning I saw about a dozen guys working which is a small crew given the scale of the project.
