SKY, I sure HOPE I'M WRONG. Confirm please: If I set up Vonage with the hardware for my D.R. landline, I can still use the same signal via the app on my smartphone?? If this is true. this might be a great option. I think I'll try vonage.com right now and HOPE I'M WRONG.
I have no idea about how Vonage works. All my posts relate to MJ. Know nothing about a Vonage app for cells. Only MJ..........

I guess I will just passively hang around until it ends and then see what happens. I only need Skype so that I can make 800 calls, in the event (often) that companies don't list an international collect option.

Still not understanding Magic Jack. Do you have a device like a dongle connected to your laptop to make it work with your laptop and smartphone? If so, I'm assuming they will ship it after you order. Correct?

Yes, but you can use your cell with the app without any connection once you are a registered user......

Exactly, a dongle, that has a phone jack on the other end. So you can plug in a landline phone OR use the app, or both. I have mine here somewhere, let me look for it. In fact, you can have it if you want it b

You can also connect it to your router and not need anything other than the app on your cell. And it will work once registered even without the router turned on. I use it in the US with only my cell. But you do need to register it once and get the app...............

What you can do is connect and register it once on someone's router, laptop, or desktop computer. Once you are registered you can get the free app and register the app for your cell. Then it will always work. I use the app even with my computer and router off all the time, so this should work for you.....

Plugs into any usb port. I don’t use it anymore. I presume someone else can register it and use it if you want it.

If it is still registered and working someone could use it now with the app and not even need the equipment. But they would need your user name which is the EMail associated with it and the password to start it. I can do it easily with this. But if you did not pay and the time ran out it will not work...............

It is next to impossible to change from the original owner. But you can try and go to Magic Jack login and use your User Email and password to see the status and pay for renewal of service. Should be easy if you have the Email and password...........Go here and use your MJ phone number if you have it. The thing is in the middle ready to renew.........

Vonage Business was connected to (Claro) landline when I was using it.

I am looking at it. Looks like it is possible to transfer the Skype nr to Magic. I downloaded their App to my iPhone. I am glad to read it has SMS service too as I use it for Apps. Will try and call their customer service. I am not quite understanding this with a device you need to install.

I used MagicJack for a time many years ago. At one point Vonage became a better option so I dropped MagicJack for that and eventually switched to using Altice locally and Google Voice and WhatsApp for various contacts. I dropped Vonage because they no longer worked to call Dominican cell phones...

Porting your MagicJack number, etc...
