If you are talking about Magic Jack it is NOT a widget, but an app on your cell. Basically the same as dialing the regular phone app. You don't need to be an IT Tech to get this up and running........So where do we get the Widget ?

I saw pictures of it. I guess it's only needed if you want to connect a regular phone to it(?).If you are talking about Magic Jack it is NOT a widget, but an app on your cell. Basically the same as dialing the regular phone app. You don't need to be an IT Tech to get this up and running........
This 2 minute video is all you need to set up the MJ. I recommend setting it up the way he shows in the Video directly to your router instead of your computer. That way you don't need a computer at all. After you do this download the app and register it following the directions and now you have it on your cell. So you can use it only on your cell or on both the cell and a landline.....Also it comes with all the instructions on getting a new number. I have not seen that but I know it has to be easy.......I saw pictures of it. I guess it's only needed if you want to connect a regular phone to it(?).
I though all you needed was the app(?). You mean I can't download the app on my laptop as well as my iPhone and use it to make calls also? This 2 minute video is all you need to set up the MJ. Ok I see TextNow mentioned here. I am looking at it. It might suit my needs. Thank you GadflyI use TextNow for making toll-free calls to the US. It also works for regular US numbers too (I think Canada also, but haven't needed for that). It gives me a US number, and as long as I make a weekly call, it remains free of charge. Inconvenient? No, I just put a reminder on my calendar to make that call, easy enough., Until very recently, it worked for SMS codes from banks, etc, but now that isn't a part of the free plan. Not a show-stopper for me at this point though. I don't make many such calls, so this works fine for me. For family, Whatsapp calls work great
You are confused about the app. The app is only a bonus that makes the MJ available on your cell. Look at the video and you will see the actual MJ. You can plug it into your laptop with the attached USB and make and receive calls using your laptop speaker without a phone if you wish. There is a lot you can do with MJ............I though all you needed was the app(?). You mean I can't download the app on my laptop as well as my iPhone and use it to make calls also?
Yes, that's the "widget" I was taking about. So, if I want to use MJ on my laptop, I need to by the widget plus a phone to connect into it?You are confused about the app. The app is only a bonus that makes the MJ available on your cell. First off it is not a Widget. See below what a widget is..It is not hardware.Yes, that's the "widget" I was taking about. So, if I want to use MJ on my laptop, I need to by the widget plus a phone to connect into it?
Ok. I was just using the word as some "thingamajig' that was connected to the laptop. I didn't know widget had some specific tech meaning.First off it is not a Widget. See below what a widget is..It is not hardware.
A widget is a graphical user interface (GUI) element that displays information or allows users to interact with an application or operating system. Widgets can be used on websites, mobile devices, and desktop computers
Ok you don't need to buy anything other than the MJ. The MJ can be plugged into a USB port on your laptop. And you don't even need a phone as you can use your headset. But I recommend a speakerphone because calling banks and 800 no. you are on hold forever. Also with a phone you do not even need a computer as you can also plug the MJ as seen on the video directly into your router and then use the phone to call and receive. There are many things you can do with the MJ...
It is next to impossible to change from the original owner. But you can try and go to Magic Jack login and use your User Email and password to see the status and pay for renewal of service. Should be easy if you have the Email and password...........Go here and use your MJ phone number if you have it. The thing is in the middle ready to renew.........

Ok. I was just using the word as some "thingamajig' that was connected to the laptop. Which do you recommend - just download the app on my iPhone, or buy the thingamajig for my laptop? I can't see needing both(?).
First off looking at the photos you posted you have the original model which can not hook up through the router. But it could still work if you know the number OR your Email you gave and Password. Then you can pay to renew service...........Looks like I should just toss mine. I don’t remember the phone number, was mostly used for outgoing calls. I tried to request my password for reset but apparently my account predates my current email address, so that’s the end of that.
You don't get it. The app will only work if you buy the MJ. It is a bonus and will only work if you have a registered MJ..............So either buy the MJ or forget the whole app idea..............And a word of caution about the app. Some crooks appear to be registering MJ's and selling apps for $15 a month or so and paying $4 a month. SCAM..............Ok. I was just using the word as some "thingamajig' that was connected to the laptop. I didn't know widget had some specific tech meaning.

What kind of phone are you referring to? Sky says all I need to do is download the app on my iPhone and I'm good to go. No device needed.I’m pretty sure you need to first buy the device and register it, etc. THEN you can use MJ on your phone
SKY NEVER SAID THAT. Read what I said. You have to buy the MJ and register it for the app to work................What kind of phone are you referring to? Sky says all I need to do is download the app on my iPhone and I'm good to go. No device needed.
That's exactly what I'm doing. Hopefully I have it in a week.I’m pretty sure you need to first buy the device and register it, etc. THEN you can use MJ on your phone

I think that's because of the confusion over what a widget was. See post #101.SKY NEVER SAID THAT. Read what I said. You have to buy the MJ and register it for the app to work................
