"You sound like a great bunch.... I'd be more afraid of "you" than them...."

Oh, we're not really so bad, after you get to know us, as BushBaby pointed out.

Take some of the statements with a grain of salt, don't take anything too seriously or too personally, and don't attempt any 'stick-ups', and you'll probably get along just fine.

Probably being the operative word.

Would you, faithie? Understandable I suppose but bear in mind no-one posting here will kill you.:cheeky: Personally I'd be more afraid of a proferred opinion, without researching who is who or what is what or having an understanding of human nature and how it uses humour, particularly in the DR.

Certainly gives a clearer idea of who runs and dominates this site - the Dominican equivalent of the "Daily Mail" reader.

I certainly know the Dominican Republic but would never advocate killing muggers as been an appropriate response.

How about if a guy sliced open your head with a Machete and proceeded to attempt to slit your throat? Would you just watch? I killed the guy or i would not be posting here any more.

After 120 posts maybe you need to read the daily mail, and things may come a little clearer sooner for you too.

That is certainly your prerogative. However, you should understand there are other points of view besides yours, and it never hurts to examine a subject from all perspectives. I happen to believe that self-defense is a legitimate construct.

I assume your name, London Calling, has at least some intended reference to The Clash, a group not without their own violent side. As a Clash fan myself, I recall that their song “Guns Of Brixton” advocated for the arming of civilians, did it not?

You can hold any beliefs you choose, but don’t be so quick to criticize others for theirs. You probably do not know all of the circumstances involved.

Armed robberies number 48 in 20 days - DiarioLibre.com

This is in the English language version of today's Diario Libre.

'At the end of last week, this newspaper was the first to report how Dilcia Leticia Jorge Mera, the daughter of former President Salvador Jorge Blanco, was assaulted in daylight at the corner of 27 of February and Abraham Lincoln, one of the busiest corners in the city.

And precisely, the police have not been able to identify the thief nor who it was that killed him shortly thereafter..'
(emboldening mine)

There are more important things happening in the DR than to concern ourselves unduly about the disposal of a few thieves caught in the act.

Oh, babelfish! A spot of literal translation by our DL colleagues there. 'Assaulted' is used in the sense of 'asalto' - robbery - she was not physically assaulted. The thief grabbed her bag from the passenger seat of her car.

Why yes, I'm so silly.
Excuse my reaction to what seemed a "laissez faire" attitude to killing people.

"Why yes, I'm so silly."

Oh, that's okay. I'm sure that now you realize how foolish you sounded, particularly by those who have actually been attacked, and who truly understand that there are occasions when it is necessary to defend one's self.

But of course, you know that now.

Yes, the Canadian Student is doing well, albeit not happy about his motorcycle. One word of advice to motorcycle owners, don't make the mistake that we did by having the original matricula (registration) with the bike, make a copy and use that. It makes it easier for them to dispose of the bike with the orginal documents in hand.
