Someone with a sense of decency started this thread by commenting on the misery of the women trapped in the sex trade, especially the young ones. It ends with comments reflecting no understanding whatever of any insult to human dignity.
Check out the urban dictionary for "sleazy"--shabby, dirty, vulgar, perverted. Derived from slimy and greasy.
There's a big difference between sleazy and Disneyland. Sosua doesn't have to degenerate into a souless wasteland.

What are you talking about?

I guess different people have differing ideas about what constitutes an "ideal society".

Perhaps it is the eclectic quality of the world that makes life interesting.

Gabriela, I hope you find your ideal existence, but I have my doubts whether such a place ever existed, or will ever exist, anywhere, at any time.

There are 216 countries in the World. Only in two of them (Dominican Republic and Thailand) old men are still treated with dignity and respect and allowed to have sex. If you are mad about it, why going here? You have other 214 countries to your choice. Where you will be happy seeing miserable old men been allowed only to play domino and to watch TV - what a happy end of a hard work life!!!

I think Gabriela was pointing out that the sex trade is a bit sleazy. It is unregulated and sometimes dangerous for the participants.
It attracts people at the margins of society. It is illegal in many countries and some people blindly associate "illegal" with "wrong".

When men are involved in the sale of a woman's services then the social dynamic is complicated even more.
Most people would not have a problem with an employment agent offering human resources but a pimp is seen almost everywhere as a pariah - and pimping is indeed illegal in the D.R.

It is all to do with people's attitudes towards sex.
Many religions tell us it is wrong, dirty, perverted etc. For me they confuse the act with the participants.
And as for the derivation of the word "SLEAZY" - slimy and greasy -
well maybe that is how people like their sex.:bunny:

Right and wrong are largely subjective - especially where no injury, oppression or material loss is involved.
As Frank Zappa said - "Anything you can do to have a good time without causing a murder"

  • Morals are not absolute.
  • Conventions change.
  • The golden rule "absolutely" always applies.

Here endeth the rant.

How many woman do you assume are trapped in the sex trade in Sosua?

What about all those girls that travel to Sosua on the weekends from Santiago, Santo Domingo and many other places to turn tricks in Sosua.
Are they trapped?

Have you ever actually been on the street at night and talked to these girls?

Please enlighten us with your insights and on the ground knowledge of the sex trade in Sosua.

I'm not condoning it, I just don't like it when people spout off without actually having any "real" knowledge or when it's driven by another agenda.
e.g your hatred of Sosua because your family got screwed over by some bad lawyers.

Not just prostitution. She is angry seeing here many 65 y.o. husbands with 18- 20 y.o. wives. American/Western women hate it. It forces them to watch their diet, body weight, to work out, to keep themselves in shape to be able to compete with 20-somethings. They want to see men begging after them without investing any effort.

It is not fair. Why I must work out four hours a day and watch every meal and every calory to stay young, strong, athletic and sexually attractive to all young girls including my 20something year old wife and they should not?

The game must be fair and honest I think.

And furthermore....
Proof that this is largely in the mind is the way I keep reading on this board about how disgusted a poster was to see a Gringo with a younger Chica.
Well hang on a minute!
I have never seen a Gringo having sex with a younger Chica and neither have these posters.

They just let their mind project what they imagine onto what they see.
What ever is in their mind they should take responsibility for.
That is where the sleaze, the filth, the perversion, the dirt, the greasy, oily, demented, wild untamed, lustful, shameless sex happens - it must be unless they actually witness it first hand - where else could this attitude come from?

They never see it but they always comment on it.

Hmmm...

Curious....

.

Acutally you're right. Several 17 to 22 are university students over for the weekend to make some $$ for their expenses. They usually are the prettiest.

dreams

we could build a perfect world...:)
clean, green and disease free.....pure morals
encase it in a glass bottle and sell it to the sheep

sooner or later someone will find fault with it and start to complain...
such is humanity's goal in life :)

With Politur picking up the girls, Sosua is heading for disaster. Without the ladies; bars, restaurants, colmados, salons, cafeterias, motoconchos, boutiques etc. will soon be forced to close. The girls probably do more for the economy than any other business in Sosua. Save our girls.

Eddie maybe I can get green peace to support a "Save the Sosua Girl movement"

From what I've read, the same can be said for the "girls" in the US at the stripper clubs. Of course, they are only "exotic dancers". so it's alright with their families (as long as the big bucks -- money, not men -- keep coming in). ;)

Believe me most of the parents here don't know it either. Maybe some of the mothers but for sure not the fathers.

For sure. You can send me any donations. We take cash, checks, major credit cards and paypal. I can personally promise that all the money will go to the girls. I will see to it myself. I might need an assistant eventually. Please forward your resume along with payment for your first month's salary.

Money goes: New cel. phone, cel. phone cards, salon, new clothes etc. A little bit to the mother on the side.

I dont think so.
without the whores, haitians beggin, and the 20-30 lowlifes expat that control the whores, drugs and haitians, Sosua would be a better town.
New people will come to town from POP, Santiago. decent ladies. decent expats. and business would do much better with wealthy dominicans and expats. than those trash who deal with minors and pros 24 hours a day.

Who are these 20-30 ex pats running the whores, drugs and Hatians???? You trying to tell me this is organized? You must be smoking crack if you think the whore trade is being run in an orderly fashion or even better than that by some expats!!! Been going there monthly for 18 years and never seen this organiztion!!!

I disagree, sosua has a rep that will stick for life. Wealthy Dominicans will never go to sosua. I myself have had to start using POP rather than Sosua as my last place of residence due to the reaction I get from Dominicans when I mention I lived in Sosua, always the same reaction.
Sosua will always tick over because it has the best pro's in the country, I think without them it would struggle.

100% agree, I never tell people I live in Sosua, I usually say Puerto Plata and leave it at that unless they press me for a specific area. Im techniclly correct because Sosua is in Puerto Plata province. ;)
