If these girls are so repulsed to be with me, why is it impossible for me to wake them up in the morning? Why do they want to have breakfast with me?
I am only 37, not overweight, speak some Spanish and for many of the Dominicanas that I met, I am the best guy they will ever meet!

They are impossible to wake up in the morning not because of you, but because of the other 5 guys who rode her before she got with you. If you don't believe tricking is hard work you try it. You are the best guy she'll ever meet until the next guy she meets. That is why she needed rest and breakfast. He's 47 and IS overweight. :bunny:

Eddy is 100% correct. The girls are the country's #1 most important natural resource. They are the only reason foreign men come here, there's nothing else to keep them coming to this particular country.
Even about 85% of the remittences being sent here from Domincians abroad come from women, almost all of whom are in the sex industry in the countries they currently reside. People here should realize just how important and critical they are and what things would be like without them...then perhaps their status in society would improve for the better.

This may be true for some but I know many Dominican women in NYC area that are working regular jobs, not as working girls. They are Hairdressers, janitors, store clerks, teachers, factory workers ...etc. I would that even in Europe the percentage is less than half.

So, here we are at post 222 (or was when I started writing this). Having read the whole thread from the original post to the latest comment - what started out as an one persons' observations of a couple of perceived situations in Sosua during one evening has, once again, been turned around into the usual "Slag off Sosua" fest.
J.R. & P/Chemical tried to interject a bit of levity with their Blackpool Kebab Shop comments (used to be a coach driver & you're spot on the the ball there gents!) bit still, time after time, certain people post with the sole intention of putting Sosua down.
What is it with you lot? Why the constant Sosua bashing? Every thread about the town either starts off as a negative or is steered in that direction by subsequent posters. The way people write, it is the only town in the whole of the Dominican Republic that has prostitution/crime/sankies and people take great delight in jumping on the bandwaggon to add their bit when most have never even been in the town.
Sosua, like most tourist towns throughout the world, has it's fair share of problems and these will probably never be solved - only time will tell. I know you feel you have to write something, but why not make it constructive crtiticism instead of the constant slagging off?
OK, that's my rant - my wife & I are looking forward to returning in 4 weeks and look forward to seeing you there.
Tropical Regards

Surviving

Los Charamicos used to be, a few years ago, not THAT long ago, THE chica/party place, and the party slowly moved east to the Batey of Sosua. Yet, Los Charamicos is still a vibrant, albeit depressed, but locally viable community. Local communities all over the DR have always managed to survive with or without foreign influence. We as foreigners, are not as important as some seem to think we are, and to many locals, they would actually prefer the invasion had never happened. A local school teacher of many years once told me, "we of course welcome your money, but we have suffered the consequences, and there are many, but we will always be here, surviving, with you or without you."

I tend to believe her.

Reidy, I agree but I’d like to know what % of posters on this tread have actually been in Sosua or its surrounding areas more than 3 times in a yr after 7pm. But more important to me as far as nightlife goes, is that I just finished my 6th trip in PC/Bavaro area and I thought at times I was in Sosua.:surprised Let’s see, out of control Dominican deportees selling everything from drugs to chicas, and local beggers at night hitting every single gringo for a buck. On the main road into Bavaro, dozens, and I mean dozens of Haitian boys sleeping on the sidewalks with tourist and local gringos having to walk over them. Also you will see many of these kids sleeping in Bavaro’s main plaza and other mall areas where 2 of the popular nightclubs outside of resorts are to be found. Politur drive by as normal in the past visits, but not concern with the street kids. Wow, almost like the Sosua I know. Oh yes, Chicas were always available especially in the known P&Click bars and carwashes in PC/Bavaro. But having them hit you up while you’re filling up for gas:eek:, man that’s a form of desperation that chicas in Sosua would never lower to. Or maybe in PC they’re testing out the market to see if guys can pay for two things at once. It does make sense when you consider our concern with the price of gasoline and making sure the operator sets the pump at zero. Then you add in the price for pus%y which is said to be much higher in the PC area than in Sosua, and you could have some guy’s heads spinning out of control. Now that mine has stopped, I need a cold one or two as the Sosua bars need more support these days. Anyone able to leave your criticisms at home about Sosua and want to join me, I’ll be at La Rumba?

Where are the sex slaves???? The girls working the streets of Sosua are for the most part from other areas of the country, noone is being forced to be a sex slave. Goto Caribe bus station and you will watch them voluntarilly get off the bus with their suit case and check into a little hotel in Charamicos and then hop on a Moto Concho to Batey to find Love, I mean $$$$. Where do you come off saying sex slaves????

I remember this right 'honorary' consul (dominican) who had the girls lined up for some carnal assessment ante applying for visa to the EU. Most were happy to do so (apply for). Some go where the rice is, most go where the gold is.

Your kids would love the beach. To me it's one of the nicest in the country. Weekends especially Dominican families turn up with their children and everyone has a ball. .

Sosua beach is ok, imo it's not one of the best in the country...

It's smallish, the lagune is almost dead, there are too many vendors on the beach and the pricing of the services, food and drinks is higher than it should be..

If you're a family with children you will see the girls in skimpy bikini's frolicking in the water, either see-through or with some parts popping out..

For families I would recommend a different beach..

I guess Sosua has a choice to either cater to the sex crowd or the family crowd, you can't really do both.
Shut down prostitution and there will be short term pain as the economy re-aligns itself with new clientele but once the normal regular tourist trade takes over it will make the current sin city economy look pale and the entire area would be better off in the long run (economically and safety wise).

I don't know. I have stayed a few times at Casa Marina, and in terms of total bed nights Casa Marina probably beats all the rest of the small hotels put together. At weekends in the summer the place is full of Dominican families, and the pool is full of Dominican kids having a great time. This seems to coexist quite well with the prostitution bars on Pedro Clissante that get going mostly after dark.

It seems to me that prostitution hotels and bars are a niche market of limited size. Clearly hotels that allow men to bring in girls from sex can charge a bit more than the equivalent facility that doesn't, which is what makes it a viable business model.

The bars depend on the fact that there is a demand for both alcohol and sex. Make alcohol illegal (not likely to happen, of course) and prostitution would also take a huge hit.

However, it seems to me that the size of the prostitution market is limited and there always seem to be too many entrants into the bar/club scene to service the demand. How places like Seacrets and Club X stay in business, I don't know. Maybe they just exist to launder funds from elsewhere.

I really dont know if we are all talking about the same Sosua.

I was just there this weekend with some friends that came up for the weekend..

I didn't see any girls being led around on leashes by thier Dominican, or Gringo pimps..

I did not see any crack putas turning 200 peso tricks..And i did not see any 50 year old fat bald guys forcing 12 year old girls in to thier hotel rooms..

What A bunch of crap being said, as usual...

For the people who actually go to Sosua, you see that there is a great number of tourist under 35 years old..Many who are African American, Hispanic, and white. Many Germans, Italians, etc.. etc..These are just young guys having fun and doing what they choose to do with thier time and money..Some people look down on them, but these guys are not doing nothing different then what all the so called high class Dominicans do on the Island..And what many Americans do in the States with massage parlors, and sex being openly advertised on the internet on sites like Backpages. Sure there are many older guys with younger girls, but it is thier life to do what they please with it..Not for some bored know it alls on DR1 who think every Gringo tourist is a loser..

As far as the girls, Most of these girls come from Places like Santiago and Santo Domingo, and they know why they are coming to Sosua. Nobody forces them in to doing what they do..Many of the girls do Help support family back home, and provide for thier children, but just as many enjoy doing what they do to have all the things that they want to have. Things like, clothes, cell phones, computers, and mostly thier independence from men that have controlled and abused them in thier life. And many girls like to hang out with tourist and enjoy the perks that go along with it..And dont feel that sorry for them, many of the girls that work in various massage type places that we wont name, rake in from $500- $700 a week..Where can these girls make this kind of money? They Probably have a higher income then many of the people posting here..

I am in no way saying Sosua is a perfect place, but The head honchos should try to figure out how to clean the place up a little, but not kill it..Prostitution can be a part of the town, but it does not have to dominate it..Just keep it in check, like they do in places like Aruba..

And pleeeeeese!!! Lets stop blaming the so called sex tourist for the rampant prostitution problem in the DR...

rsg you have great valid points I wholeheartedly agree. Many posters on this forum do not live in the DR shall I say the majority of them are either foreigners or expats living under different economic and cultural climates. If a person doesn't live in the DR day in and day out they do not completely grasp how difficult it is here to economically speaking. I am not a proponent nor do I advocate prostitution as their are many inherent dangers and risks involved. Being realistic women and men have aspirations to be successful economically buy their clothes, eat at nice restaurants, savings at bank accounts, have a respectable means of transportation, and nice reputable comfortable home, etc. In the DR it is extremely more difficult harder to attain in proportion to the USA, Europe, Canada, Japan, etc. working an honest reputable job its just that the income generated from that job gets so stretched out to make ends meet. Not saying that its impossible some work extremely hard legally and establish business contacts which enable them to economically prosper and attain a good lifetsyle. Its just that the chances and likelihood is extremely much less than other developed countries. Young Dominicans have access to TV, internet, and other media they recognize name brand clothes, they recognize name brand cars, they recognize name brand jewelry, perfume, liquor, etc. and they too have those same aspirations just like Americans and Europeans to attain those things and live a middle to upper middle possibly rich class type of lifestyle. Though they live in the DR and see the reality of the economic difficulty in their country doesn't change those aspirations and goals and the go-getters will attempt to obtain that lifestyle by any means necessary though unfortunately some do it by corruption and illegal means. Until a foreigner lives here on a daily basis or an expat comes back to live here he or she cannot ridicule nor crucify prostitutes nor strippers. In general it is not robbery nor fraud nor killing someone they provide a service and in return they expect to be compensated. Economic reality in the DR is extremely tough and unfortunately a good majority of economic prosperity is attained either through a lawsuit, from expats abroad, illegal activity and corruption, foreign investment its reality. Basically its extremely more difficult for a poor person Juan or Juana to be successful economically in the DR than a Joe or Joan from a poor background in the USA since there are more opportunities for upwards mobility there and other developed countries hopefully in the future this will change.

What days are those? :) I'll leave my grand kids at home and go alone. When I go, usually Sundays, the only girls frolicking in the water are 4 to 15 years old Dominicans. Girls and boys mostly there with their parents.

I told myself I would refrain from posting any more on this thread because there is so much foolishness being posted by very silly people who know absolutely nothing about Sosua.

However, after seeing this ridiculous statement posted by MerengueDutchie, I just had to respond.

The only women fitting MerengueDutchie's description are Europeans, who trying their darnest to project their version of "Euro-thrash" chic on the local population. Dominican women simply do not dress or act like that at the beach. And those women are usually isolated and shunned by everyone else. What nonsense.

And god forbid women should wear skimpy bikinis at the beach.

And frolicking???
There should be a law against frolicking, surely.

And while were at it maybe we should ban smiling, giggling laughing and any type of cavorting - especially on holiday.

What is the world coming to?
Young people today have no respect.
In my day blah, blah, drone waffle......

I agree, we went down to playa dorada a couple of years ago for a couple of days to rest up and get away from motoconchos and the same old same. My lass was very shocked at the sights of this American woman when top came off and she couldn't get her head around it. Why is she showing herself like that infront of these men?
I'm all for topless bathing but it just isn't a native way here, ime.

last night as i was sitting at el flow with my bf and some friends, i couldnt help but notice this young girl sitting with an old old man. i see it a million times, but this time she really caught my eye. not once did this girl smile ... in fact, she had such a sad, distraught look to her that it made me sad! he was all over her and it looked like she just wanted out ... after sitting there for about an hour, they got up and left... it grosses me out. prostitution happens, i know and thats not the part that really gets me ... it's these girls that look like they would rather eat **** than go with these nasty ass men. money or no money, i think they need to realize that they are worth more than that. it looks like a game to some and its just another night out with some nookie at the end and extra cash in their pocket but the others is what makes me cringe.

what really made me want to write this was i also saw a girl who couldnt have been more than 9 years old. it really disgusted me. and the police kept driving by like usual and i know they saw her. i've seen a woman dragging around her 5 year old son begging for money late at night, pregnant girls drinking/smoking/looking for a gringo, girls maybe 15+ but never this young. are there no laws to protect these young girls?

Obviously she would not rather eat **** or she would not be there. Why don't you give them all money so they won't have to do those things? If you weren't hanging out in bars at night you could probably support three or four of them. Don't complain, step up and take care of these people if it is so revolting to you. No one would disagree that any underage child, male or female, regardless of nationality should never be involved in these things. That is sickening and there is not a punishment harsh enough. But there are many extremely poor Dominicans that do not resort to prostitution. That is a choice, not a requirement. And anyone that thinks Sosua would thrive or even survive without the "mongers" is mistaken. Why would tourists come to Sosua? There are plenty of beaches as good or better than Sosua. And the country already has more half filled resorts than they know what to do with. And once Cuba opens up for Americans, which won't be long once Fidel is gone, there will be even less tourists here.

Like it or not the "mongers" keep many local, non-prostitutes, employed in the bars, restaurants and stores in the area. And FYI, I am not a monger.

she wont stay in business very long if she looks like she was slapped in the face with a wet fish when out doing buisness.......some genuinely seem to enjoy it and probably earn more money at it.....its probably best that you enjoy sex if you take up this proffession
