ha ha ha, get missed and stay happy, lol.
aside of the numerous and mostly present parttime visitors/inclinos I am also the only Male in da House after the sudden death of my first Chihuahua, who was a Male.
I guess he couldn't stand it anymore to get his nails painted as a Male Dog, lol.
there's the Wifey, there's the baby Gal, of course the new Chihuahua is a Gal, too, Nanny is a Female and most of the Parttime Visitors are females, too.
sure I have my 'moments' where I have to leave the house for a couple Beers elsewhere or when I kick 'em out for a few hours to their Beach, just to relax the Atmosphere. WOMEN!
but what would we do without our Females? we Love 'em.

Mike

I wouldn't have it any other way, Mike...... actually, I wasn't interested in having boys.
I thought I would do a better job w/ the girls... afraid I would try to make boys do the things I do.... not good.

Of course I did it to the girls too.... skiing ay 3-4 yrs old, horses=same time.

In our town, they had swimming classes for 6 month old babies - my wife took them.
Never have been afraid of water and swim naturally.... great program.
They blow in their face - the child stops breathing and you dunk them...... my parents thought we were trying to drown them.

I know what you mean, the Grandparents think you are Nuts.
we took Baby Swimming Classes with my Godson in Germany when he was aged 4 1/2 Months, todays he is swimming and Surfing and Diving as Heck, like a Fish in the Water.

my own Baby Girl I dunk here on our Beach the first time when she was 10 weeks old, since she is 5 months old she has her own Custom made Baby Swimm Jacket, she walks in the Ocean here at our house and floats, dunks her Face by herself, she even tastes the salty Oceanwater with Her tongue and a big smile is the only reaction to that, I would puke myself testing the taste of the Salty wet, lol. when snorkeling I take her up to 3ft down with me, from the first dunk she automatically opens her eyes wide open under water, a look which is a 'happy smile with her eyes', keeps her mouth shut and of course stops to breath. I am sure that she will never fear the Water and swim like a fish very soon. it comes the Time when I need to teach her about the dangers of the Ocean's waters, as she sure will not fear a thing, such can bring in some dangers by a certain age.
as you mentioned Horses, the same here, Horses are my personal fav pleasure(Yes, even above Fishing, lol), she will never fear the beautiful animals.
same as You, I wanted a Girl and we got it, as my wife already has 3 big Boys.
on the Boys I always fear they will do what I did by their Age, means we would only get in big trouble all the Time, ha ha.
I guess for her 3rd B-Day(Nov 2013) she will get her first own Boat, a lil Zodiac, til now she only puked twice on my yachts, and I had her out with me on roughest Sea conditions, so she get's used to it. even while puking in the Bed of the Masterroom she still smiles, ha ha.
the Future Mrs Admiral of my lil Fleet, my Crews soon need to get ready to face da "Boss".

I hate debt, as well. But my family were bankers, among other things. I had a cousin somewhere who was the first woman president of a bank in the US, in Trenton, NJ.. so I was taught early on how to leverage and inflation and points and cost basis and how to build a portfolio etc etc.. So right now it is cheaper for me to hold a small debt than to sell off some principal and pay it off. I figure that there will be enough in the pot when I am gone for the kids to pay off american express altough since they charge me 15% as a cardholder and only pay me 1,5% or 2% as a shareholder, when everyone else seems to be managing a 2.5 to 3% return now,I have advised them not to pay off what remains!

I just bought two lbs of tomatoes, three large avocados, 3 mangos, and a cubanel pepper for 100 pesos. That's good enough for me to stay in the DR.

she is doing bthe hair of the Grannies at home, that's the use of the equipment.
that she spend's once or twice a week an hour at her friend's Saloon right aside the backentrance to our House, what's the Fuss? she does not need to work, her job is to be a housewife and raise the Kids, cook for us and keep the house clean, socialize with Her Friends where ever She want's which includes our House, our Beach and her friend's House(Salon).
she does not need to ask to receive visits of her friends and usually there are several visits per day in da house, simple normal houselife, it doesn't get boring.
and she paints the Nails of half of the Town, at home, at the salon, on the street, on the Beach, for Free, simply becuase she like's to do that stuff. no need to change a thing.

Mike

No fuss! You complained that you got her salon equipment and products and she didn't use them. I only suggested that she might use them (on herself) if she had someone come to the house to do their hair and that for some women, who want to save time, this could be a nice choice. Sometimes guys don't understand these "hair" things!

Anyway, It's cool the grannies are getting getting pampered!

and believe me, Grannies like that almost even more than the Young Crowd, and for the next 3 days they have their theme, to talk about their Hairday and all da stuff which been sprayed on the Heads, lol.
and yes, it is the Grannies where the chat is important and due that it takes double time than usual to get the hairs done.
a working Woman, as you stated, would not want to waste much time on anything, the younger generation is different than the elder was/is. also in the small Towns on the countryside it is for all a socializing aspect at the Salon while the same generations in the Cities may go a bit of a different way.

In Sousa, even Dominican prices are more than that.
Tomato= RD$25/ libra
mango= RD$20-30/each
avocado=RD$15/ each
Cubanel pepper= RD$10/ each

So would be at least RD$165. and this is what my maid could buy them for. Me? Significantly more even at a supermercado. But I am trying to keep in touch w prices for Dominicans so I can start shopping off the street. I need to know when the price is a good one!

darn, does that mean the Fuel went up today again??
I fueled the Boats with Diesel Premium Yesterday for 204.47.- Pesos per Gallon,
darn theft if it went again 3 Pesos per Gallon up over night so the corrupt thieves can steal more Fuel Money while the Country is in deepest Debts for NOT paying the Fuel Bills to the Distributors, same as on the Electricity Sector.

yeah,
as for the topic "Living Costs in DR",
a US Gallon Premium Diesel(it is dirty like He$$ and you should use the expensive additives, too) costs US$5.30.- .

I can buy 4-5 lbs of veg and fruit for 100 pesos.

Carrots 15-20 peso a lb.

Coconut - for grating for curry 20 pesos

Plantains 2 for 14 pesos

Banana 3 for 15 pesos.

1 lb sweet potato or yam 15 pesos.

good sized mango 20 pesos

for example.

Budget 100-200 pesos per adult per day for food - perhaps less for children.

A new shopping mall/market has opened in Las Terrenas - very attractive - will post some pictures in a separate thread.

As the price of solar reduces looks like you can reduce the energy component of the cost of living to near zero with maybe $2k investment.

I love the savings from my personal nuclear reactor. After initial expenses and setup (they use the same contractors from the cable company), I enjoy unlimited power (and lots of hot water) at almost NO COST. Uranium is cheap, and plentiful, and DR has many Russians that can help you get some.

I love knowing that I can safely swim in ocean at night, as I now glow in the dark.... Chicas are impressed too, they say "Ai no, Sr. Manhattan...."

I am not even close...... Used to own a pre WW2 watch with a radium glow in dark dial. It is possible that the Radium girls who painted watches could have glowed in the dark..... Might be a match to you but most are dead now....

OBVIOUSLY, "Yapaski" NEVER Raised Any Children!

He states that "Maybe Less than 200 pesos per day" to feed a child in the DR!
"Children" cost MORE than adults for food on a daily basis.
One quart of milk costs about a dollar here. I only give my kids "Skim Milk" which costs more!
They take food to school as well.
If you feed your kids "Dominican Style"(Sugar, Fat, & Salt) you can feed them for very little.
90 % of Dominican kids have anemia!
Childrens food is NOT the place to think about saving money.
Now, ya wanna talk "CLOTHES"????
Education?
Health care?
