We had a couple at the end of last year. Just guessing, but maybe the very dry summer had something to do with it.

Dominican pride in their country and food are greatly unwarranted. Many don't have 24/7 refrigeration. Many can't afford good ingredients. Many can't read a recipe.(think pasta... How long do they cook it... Its not brain science) Many have never even experienced good food. How many does that leave?

Be polite, when they offer you their crap food.( rice cooked in an aluminum pot covered with black plastic, grossly overcooked meat with bone splinters, over salted everything, salad cut on the same board as the chicken, if lucky some Dominican salami made with chopped rats and ice)

It all tastes the same because......

After you eat all that, say "que Rica!" Dominicans are great, most can't cook, but they have many redeeming qualities. And wear long pants as not to offend!

Just make sure you wash everything down with alcohol, hard stuff if you can as I think you need %10 alcohol to kill the germs. Add hot sauce if you can tolerate it. Of course after the hot sauce you will have to seek out a gringo friend with air conditioning.

LMAO. Can't expect much these days. Bet she also bathes everything in oil: "Pero asi e que sabe bueno do?a"

i only let her cook something once: huevo frito. i was very sick and had no strength to do anything. she poured about quarter cup of oil in a pan, broke an egg in and continued to spoon hot oil on the top on the egg. the result was greasy and rubbery, like used latex condom.

Im curious what she would do or say if you taught her to cook an egg with a stab of butter instead of globs of oil.

That happens when I used to get the breakfast plate of the day at the local comedores. 2 fried eggs would have more oil on the plate than was in the pan and the eggs would be dripping so much I needed to press a paper towel against them to soak it up..

If I ever learn how to cook locrio de salami, I'd be beri, beri japi. I need to check Aunt Clara's and T?a Ilana's page, www.dominicancooking.com

"Some" of them can learn. I brought down a non-stick flat griddle, and cans of butter flavored Pam, and she uses both now. You're right about the typical Dominican fried eggs, they look like the fake plastic eggs that kids play with, ugh.

My sister's girl cooks without sopita or salsa, and just a pinch of olive oil. She uses garlic, onion, oregano and other herbs. She's great!

i have no patience to teach hulk to cook. she cannot even put the dishes on the dryer without damaging or breaking something. her brain does not accept info "one plate per slot". she either tries to squeeze in few plates or leaves large gaps between plates or piles things up in the order of washing: plate, glass, pot, another glass. what the.

The thing with A LITTLE oil the egg will cook itself if the pan is hot enough. Actually the oil is just to keep it from sticking to the pan. Scooping oil on top of it serves no purpose. Then to put that whole mess on a plate with lightly buttered toast? Why waste the oil and spare the butter?

And you should stay away teflon coated pans and spray margarines. All of those are cancer causing if you can. Cast iron and butter all the way.

The scooping of the hot oil on top is to cook the top of the egg without flipping it, you can make a semi over-easy style egg that way...

I understand what you're saying, but if you have enough oil in the pan to scoop, it's too much, LOL. A better way is to add a couple of drops of water to the pan when the egg is almost done and immediately cover it. The steam creates an 'over-easy' egg in about 5-10 seconds.

If there is enough oil in the pan to scoop then you might as well flip the egg over. The spoon action is the same and it surely wont stick to the pan.
