I would never fly any Dominican company even if the tickets are free. Even if they pay me for that.

I fly Copa to Central America, South America, Caribbean and even to Las Vegas. Never had a problem. And I fly Jet Blue to Fort Lauderdale and NYC (direct flights) and never had a problem with them either.
