Haiti bans foreign goods from entering by land

The Haitian government making life even more difficult for their own citizens, since goods crossing the land border must be the most efficient and cost-effective way to feed and look after the citizens. I suppose the idea is to restrict the arms coming in but it would be much better if they...

87 pregnant Haitian women detained in hospitals under new immigration checks

No thanks, but do you think it is right for any woman who is in labour to be kicked out into the street or onto a deportation truck. It's inhumane.

Leah Francis Campos says curtailing Chinese influence in DR will be a priority if confirmed as US ambassador

Do you refer to the US government as AmeriCons, meaning American Conservatives? As for the Chinese influence in the DR, I think the DR should be in charge of their own affairs, rather than any other country.

    Not a buen viaje

I'm not so sure. I would think it is a rule that Caribe Tours have for departures from border towns like Dajabon.

Leah Francis Campos says curtailing Chinese influence in DR will be a priority if confirmed as US ambassador

It may be of interest to the USA as it is to other countries. However, I don't believe that the USA has any right to influence how the DR interacts with other countries.

    Penalize airlines for no E-Ticket?

Any airline I have used recently to enter the DR has insisted on checking it.

    Not a buen viaje

It's easy to be wise after the event, but perhaps you could have guessed that there might be problems coming from a border town like Dajabon on public transport.

UN Human Development Report: DR maintains high human development, but life expectancy drops slightly

I would guess that the lower life expectancy is due to poor diet, obesity and increasing drug use.

Migration Agency announces fines to businesses hiring illegal foreign workers, crackdown on Chinese megastores

Yes, slaves were originally brought unwillingly in ships from Africa. They were bought and sold and the same ownership applied to their offspring. The conditions on slave ships were grim but probably not as grim as coming in a car packed with another 25 people, a trip which they take...

Leah Francis Campos says curtailing Chinese influence in DR will be a priority if confirmed as US ambassador

I would say that the DR's relationship with China is none of her business. Re. trying to find a positive solution for Haiti, the DR needs all the help it can get and should welcome it.

    Living In Hell

As it is several days since his first post requesting help and he has not replied to anything, I should think our advice is for nought.

    Living In Hell

Being called a gringo for a foreigner is similar to black Haitians being called Moreno. I asked my Haitian gardener once if he minded being called Moreno and he said "no, I'm black".

    Living In Hell

We bought a house with some very good Haitian renters here in a Cabarete barrio. We thought we might have to kick them out until we were relieved to find the man had a current work visa.

    Mixed Feelings

You are the most skeptical person I have ever known. She does not walk around Sosua or BC at night. Why should I lie about her being stopped? You think you know everything but it seems you really know nothing of what goes on here, living in your ivory tower.

    Living In Hell

OP, you have not stated where you live, but I would suggest you try living in an area where there are more "gringos" (not a derogatory term here). Try living in somewhere like Cabarete or Bavaro and I think you would be looked at as just another foreigner and receive much more respect.
