Privately funded projects on the North Coast

Interesting that the USA isn't even in the top ten. Haiti has no clean water - not even bottled in most places. A friend of mine went there a couple of times before all the current trouble started and was ill both times.

    Migracion Roundup in Cabarete

That's more or less what I said, except I didn't add the word "sadly".

    Migracion Roundup in Cabarete

Only when they had that crazy round-up several years ago when many shocked and scared snowbirds were carted out of supermarkets and the like. It caused quite a panic at the time but was never repeated and who ever had the brilliant idea was probably fired.

    Migracion Roundup in Cabarete

Yes, they had a big purge in Callejon de la Loma yesterday, too.

Things are going to get interesting

Those condoms would be great for Haiti of the raping gang members were considerate enough to use them, but they wouldn't do anything to stop the thugs who are causing all the disaster there now.

Believe it or not, luggage fell off a vehicle and Police recover them in record time

if you are referring to my joking statement about me being highly intelligent being not true then for God's sake learn to see a joke. Unlike you, I do not brag about myself except in fun. If you are talking about part of the actual story of what happened to me being untrue, I would like to...

Believe it or not, luggage fell off a vehicle and Police recover them in record time

Well, one year I was going to Santo Domingo to renew my Residency and on the way my car had a puncture. To get at the spare wheel I took my bags out of the boot (trunk, to you Americans) and changed the wheel. I put my bags back in but somehow forgot the briefcase with my Residency papers...

The elite and the crisis in Haiti

This may well be true, but there is no evidence in the article.

    Public Beaches?

But it's a long way from the East coast, which is what the OP is looking for.

National Energy Efficiency Program underway for improving street lights

They could start by having people go out at night and check all the non-functioning lights and get them repaired. Then the street lighting would be much better.

The risks of employing the undocumented

As Keepcoming says, that is not the "reality", it is your opinion. I think you are wrong that "most of us" have contempt for Dominicans. Most people on this site either live here or spend a lot of time here, and I doubt we would spend as much time as we do here if we did not respect the people...

Darwin Award Candidate from China in DR

Maybe it's a typo, but I don't know what "Candidage" means and I can't think of any other word like it that fits.

President Abinader establishes committee to review country’s migration legal framework

No, they wouldn't work as hard as the Haitians! ;):)

The never-ending odyssey of Haitian undocumented migrants

That's a pretty disgusting response to someone who just showed a little compassion for people who are suffering. You don't know what Chico Bill or anyone else here personally does to help people in need. What I know is that there are several members here who do so.

The risks of employing the undocumented

When I moved here to the DR I bought a small apartment building. With the building came two Dominican employees - a watchman and a cleaner and a Haitian gardener/handyman. The Haitian was legal at the time and I helped him to try to get "Regularized" when the process was taking place. However...

Condé Nast: DR is the Caribbean’s most exciting luxury destination

Are you actually here in the DR? If so, may I politely ask why you choose to be here, given that you don't seem to like it very much?

President Abinader establishes committee to review country’s migration legal framework

If you are referring to foreigners living in the DR, you are right, but as I have said earlier in this thread, the process is unnecessarily complex. I did what you said many years ago and it was fairly difficult then, but now it is worse. I know of many people here, British, Canadian, American...

    Barbecue knows English?!

This may well be true. The ones that we meet here are the ones who want to get ahead, work, earn some money and improve their lives. They have the motivation to speak Spanish and other languages.

The risks of employing the undocumented

I think that the risks of employing anyone, whether undocumented or Dominican citizens is about the same. If you have $6,000 in cash lying about you are always in danger of being robbed by someone you allow into your house.

President Abinader establishes committee to review country’s migration legal framework

Let's hope they do something to make it easier for people who want to live here legally to get Residency. Many countries in the region have much more straightforward Residency processes. And a friend just told me that further afield, you can now get a ten-year tourist visa for Thailand.
