Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

British Airways have now cancelled all flights until mid February. TUI has also cancelled everything, so no direct links between the UK and Dom Rep until further notice.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

The reality is that hotels are doing well mainly because if it's a special occasion it's the only thing you can do - go to a hotel, have a meal, have a few drinks, spend the night. The hotels in the capital are all running at 50% or more occupation, OK it's not great, but way more than you...

    New entry procedures

Amazing, thanks for your posts these are really helpful and it's great to know that someone is listening to our feedback. I for one think the new system will be excellent, the lady I helped recently was quite elderly and really appreciated not having to fill in forms at the airport or on an...

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

They will find a way to get them back. Fly out empty planes, so nobody new coming in but people allowed out. That's how it has worked everywhere else, hundreds of countries have shut borders, there is a protocol.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

I think the reality is that not everyone in government who makes these decisions agrees. So some will be asking for a total shutdown of everything, some will want things to stay open. Discussions are probably still taking place today, and I guess the rumours come from people close to the...

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

British Airways only flew four planeloads in, I believe the first flight was 15th December and the last was on 20th December. And TUI UK similarly only started its service mid-December and promptly had all flights cancelled by the Dominican government. So it's not correct to say that there...

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

Another point is that even if they do shut the airports they will almost certainly allow empty planes to come and take away those that want to leave. They have recently banned all flights from the UK but they then allowed several empty planes to come in and let the Brits who were here return...

    Wire Transfers becoming problematic

I use Torfx.com .in the UK. You transfer to them in your currency. They convert into USD and send to Banco Popular and it arrives usually within a couple of hours.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

The people who have told me are all serious people in the industry. Nobody in the government as yet. Tonight a friend of mine who works at Punta Cana airport and had just got his job back was told that he is being laid off from the 10th for two months. In reality I guess that there are...

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

I think they are going into panic mode because a) what is happening in the UK is scary, infection rates are going through the roof and b) they cannot keep shutting down everything for Dominicans and keeping the AI's open, the government is realising that people are getting angry about tourists...

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

There were evacuation flights if my memory serves me correctly.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

Apologies, this is something that "people in the know" are circulating. The same people told me last week that we were about to have the 12 mid-day weekend curfew the day before it was announced, and I'm just passing on what I have been told in case it helps someone.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

There is a rumour circulating amongst hoteliers that the government is about to announce a shut-down of airports for 15 days from 10th January. Been reported to me now by four separate people, all who either run hotels or are important people in the world of tourism. May be just Punta Cana...

    New entry procedures

All your posts just say the same thing: "I'm right, you're wrong, shut up". It's a new procedure implemented by a new government. Past experience and your own personal experience are factors, but things do change and it is interesting to hear other people's opinions and experiences - that's...

    New entry procedures

This is exactly my point. Airlines will require you to show the QR code to be accepted onto a flight. If you can't produce it by the check-in deadline, you will be denied boarding and you won't get a refund. It works exactly the same way if you fly from the UK to the US, no ESTA, no...

Books and board games lol. Netflix and free wifi, that's all you need.

    New entry procedures

Come on now, we all know how Customer Service in Dominican means "how can I find a problem". And if they can find a problem that means you miss your flight, better still. Airlines always oversell flights. A government requirement which people fail to meet means denied boarding, no refund...

    New entry procedures

I did notice that they didn't have Retired as a profession. Reminds me of when a friend opened a bank account and the bank staff couldn't find British or UK on their list, so they rang the technical support desk and were told to put Swaziland instead.

    Better wages for police

Especially if you are expected to support a wife and kids. And yet so many people are expected to survive on those figures, not just police.

It's monthly. I know a few police and military that's definitely what they earn.
