    New entry procedures

I own a hotel and have known a number of guests to have missed their flights due to awkward staff at the airport. Forgive me if I can't produce you a bar chart or lineqr regression to support my hypothesis.

Recommendations for demolishing and building new pool

There is a guy I use called Santiago Angomas. He seems to be a go-to guy for pools a lot of people in the capital and in Las Terrenas use him. He does the design and the engineering side and gets contractors to do the build. I have used him for both of my pools and I'm happy with him. PM...

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

By the way just to avoid another 32 pages of questions. Pharmacies are open as normal until the curfew and can then deliver until 11pm

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

Santo Domingo is slightly bigger than Chicago and almost as big as LA. There will always be a demand for hotel rooms in a city that size anywhere

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

I do apologise but I always stressed that it was a rumor. I am reasonably sure that there have indeed been conversations in government about closing the borders and it's due to these that the rumors started. So far no decision to do this has been taken. The government keeps saying that the...

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

Today in Santo Domingo there were considerably less police than last week on the Malecon. Last week police absolutely everywhere telling people they weren't allowed to sit down, weren't allowed to take photos, no buying ice creams. Today much larger crowds and the police just breezed past...

    New entry procedures

Well I guess we will find out tomorrow if they do anything to airports. I'm not upset at all, I just think that you need to get the idea that this is a forum, the idea is to share information and opinions. You seem to blast people who don't agree with you and maybe it would be easier if you...

Diario Libre calls for an investigation into the Ministry of Education purchase of 752,000 electronic devices

Yes, everyone talked about it in the street, but only Nuria and Alicia Ortega actually published facts and figures and named names. Very brave women. Since the change of government I've noticed a great deal more reporting of corruption and I think everyone is looking for the big scoop to...

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

I suspect the boats to and from the island aren't running because these are mainly day-trip boats and there isn't time to day-trip between 9-12. If you want a weekend away from curfew restrictions, the only option is an AI at the moment and there are some serious bargains out there.

Which is pretty much what has happened in the case of AI's, the owners have whinged to their friends in government and have been given special exemptions.

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

I also have lived here ten years and don't have any friends at all who are expats. All my friends are Dominicans. My god daughter was born in Guandules and you're far more likely to see me propping up a bar in the colmado in a barrio than in Bella Vista. And as far as grand standing is...

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

That wasn't his point. He was saying that those who occasionally post support for poor Dominicans are p'ssing in the wind on this forum because the majority on here are expats who don't really connect with what life is really like in DR. At least that was my take on it.

Diario Libre calls for an investigation into the Ministry of Education purchase of 752,000 electronic devices

Exactly this. Clearly the old government controlled the media, as a reporter you had to turn a blind eye to corruption and instead focus on the do-gooding stories of politicians building schools and hospitals. Now it seems things have changed and newspapers are free to call out scandals -...

Senate passes extension of National State of Emergency

Also note that this government banned all flights from the UK recently eliminating about 2000 AI arrivals per week.

Diario Libre calls for an investigation into the Ministry of Education purchase of 752,000 electronic devices

I think it's good that DiarioLibre feels able to call this stuff out, publicly. This has to be a step in the right direction and I presume that having called this out, the government has to respond. Let's see what Abinader does regarding this.

Airports to be shut down for 15 days from 10th Jan ??

So far no news, but this government has a habit of springing decisions out. For example, they banned all flights from the UK with just a few hours notice. My advice would be to leave your refundable flights until the last minute to cancel, but check the terms very very carefully to make sure...

    Curfew Tightened Considerably

in Well said. Add to this that quite a lot of DR1 regulars don't actually live in the country, and more still hardly speak any Spanish and don't know many Dominicans other than a few chicas.
