So my friends with satellite TV, prepare for the days ahead with black screens. I have just gotten a new nf*****n and with the latest development I have taken a crash course on the FTA industry.
With the widespread testing of DN and BEV across North America (NA) using FTA receivers the providers decided that there's been enough testing.
It's a well known fact that N2 (Nagravision 2) coding was broken a long time ago, and to cite one of the FTA forums, "coders knew N2 as the back of their hands", new bins were released minutes after the codes were changed by providers.
So the companies decided to switch into N3 - Nagravision 3 from N2. This involved a massive swap of subs (the new ones are purple color on DN) that on DN initiated in November 2008 and on BEV was actually completed in Nov'08.
BEV went N3 in November 2008 and since then, only nfusion using IKS/SUNS was able to get programming, although without PPV and porn. But at last people got their CBC and CTV. Other FTA's, repeat ALL OTHER FTA's, went dark and have been dark ever since.
Yes people, N3 has NOT been broken yet, so with DN going fully N3 this month, you know what to expect. In Europe N3 has been in use for much longer (Premiere, UPC, Digital+ Spain, etc.) and coders could NOT break N3 as yet.
What concerns most of people in the DR with satellite TV is DN, so read on:
DN has switched their Echostar 6 & 7 @ 73w to N3 in November 2008 and completed conversion by December 2008. That means people in the USA using those satellites were already swapped their smart cards and are using N3 only.
All international Channels on DN that are on Anik 3 @ 118.8w went N3 in mid-February.
People in the DR have their dishes pointed to Echostar 10 & 11 @ 110w and Echostar 7 @ 119w will be affected by N3 conversion this month.
By now (since Nov'08) all channels on 110w and 119w for DN were coded both in N2 and N3. As of April 2009, full N3 conversion is under way.
From a FTA forum:
Programming services that are supported on the Aladin (old) Smart Cards will be taken down based on the staggered schedule below. The dates in parentheses are when reminder pop-up messages will begin appearing on an affected customer’s TV screen.
• 4/1/09 – Adult programming (customer pop-up reminder messages began 3/18).
• 4/8/09 – HD programming, Starz, and Encore (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 3/25).
• 4/15/09 – Latino programming, Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax (customer pop-up messages for Latino begin 3/25 and for Showtime, HBO, and Cinemax begin 4/1).
• 4/22/09 – Classic Gold 250 (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 4/8).
• 4/29/09 – Classic Silver 200 (customer pop-up reminder messages begin 4/15).
• 5/27/09 – Last round of on-screen messaging begins on 5/6 for any remaining services. All remaining services (including local network programming) will be shut off to Aladin Smart Cards by 5/27.
The adult channels DID INDEED go N3 yesterday 6/April/2009. You can check that on your receivers. Not even nfusion is (yet) picking them up.
THERE IS NO HACK/CRACK/CODE FOR N3 YET!!!! There is not. That's it.
There has been some progress made in Europe by opening up some parts of N3 on Premiere and Digital+ (do some google research for more info) but it's far from being fully cracked.
There may be a solution for us nfusion folks if the Pyros brothers (coders for nfusion) keep up with the work and if the SUNS/IKS keep working. Make sure you have the newest file 1.50.3 for your nfusions installed. If BEV is an example, they will put the new N3 cards into the servers for SUNS/IKS to work. But that may take some time, and may be the same as on BEV that PPV, SPORTS, and PORN will NOT be available on N3 IKS. And may be done only after full N3 conversion on DN is completed (May 2009) - so it may be lots of black channels till then.
However, SUNS/IKS for BEV were down for about 7 days end-of-march and came back online yesterday. BEV is now back on N3 SUNKS/IKS on nfusion, no PORN and no PPV.
Because there is NO CRACK for N3 (yet), Viewsat, Pansat and others that use BINs to decode the signal (emulate DN receivers) will go black on the channels that go N3. Once all channels are N3, those FTA receivers WILL BE BLACK until the N3 crack is available (which may be several weeks, months, or never). Now considering N3 cards have been in distribution on BEV and DN since November, and Europe has been using N3 for much longer, and there is still no crack, I wouldn't hold my hopes high that a N3 crack will become available soon for the receivers that use BINS (practically theya re using what is called "emulation").
So receivers with emulation for DN will go black after N3 conversion. Receivers with IKS (nfusion and some others) MAY (again, MAY) keep working after the N3 conversion.
But the future is uncertain. So people, go get your cable subscriptions ready. DN will be going black soon ... and if nfusion and other receivers using IKS will keep working after N3 is fully implemented on Dish (April/May 2009), there will be a huge demand for them and prices will most likely skyrocket.
