agreed the kid is not a kid legally he is an adult as such, any problems are his own as he has moved out. you can help support if you wish, but passports or residence that is on him now. He is living on his own, he is earning his own money, and living his own life. Your problem will be with his mother. Makes no difference what creed or nationality he is his mother will normally side with her child!
The kid got there legally and as long as he is not breaking any laws there is no way he should be deported.

Are Extreme and Bienamor 100% blind?:glasses: Read the opening post again please. It clearly states that the wife and family want the Stepfather to support the little york tigare again, and to HELP HIM STAY in the country.

Come on people.... the delinquent/malcriado/tiguere is a young adult and does not have permanent residency.
Why should the OP abide by the "part of the package" rule now and continue with the residency paperwork only to continue to be financially responsible for this "kid". The kids track record sucks and the OP should have/feel no obligation towards him. How many chances does one get to better their lives/situatuion? Did anyone serve opportunity in a silver platter to any of you? He earned his fate!

18 yr old stepkid

He can get a carta de ruta with his cedula from the nearest consulate office (with another person with a cedula as a witness) to travel back home. But since he's gotten "everything he wanted and needed" from poor old "Dad", why would he want to go back to the DR????

No, neither Bienamor and I are blind, thanks for the compliments though, we just stated that if he is legal in the USA (the OP never clarified the legal status of the kid in the USA) he should have no problem because he hasn't committed any felony in the USA, and we can't assume he will commit it. The pain that you and others have here is that the Dominican guy will stay in the country while there are countless of american teens with the same attitude. You don't deport anyone over attitude period. But I agree with the OP that he should get drastic measures if the guy keeps bugging in his life.

Not blind and recognize the the family "IE" mom wants him to help the kid as any other mother would. but read what I said. He is 18, legally he is an adult, therefore any of the legal stuff is on him, people can help him but the responsibility is his. according to the OP he helped obtain a visa to rejoin with his biological father who has since or before left the kid. If before, then the op would be guilty of helping to obtain a visa under false pretenses.
All he can really do is tell mom the facts and that he has no responsibility to help the kid, and legally its not his problem.

Now I would think that he probably still needs to apply for permanent residency as he from the sounds of things has not been in the US that long. Other wise he will be past the visa date, then he would be illegal. BUT THE STEPFATHER HAS NO LEGAL OBLIGATION. Mother on the other hand, the kid will always be her son!

If the mother is holding her son and the father from falling of a cliff, and she can only save one. You better hope your the son.

Thats right, no matter who is right or wrong here, the Dominican mother will ALWAYS CHOOSE HER SON, thats if she already has her own visa:cheeky:

Carabella:

I think you misunderstand the "part of the package" rule. As long as the mother is concerned and pushes the step-father to help and or involve himself in her child's issues, it's going to be his problem.... the age of the child has nothing to do with it.

Just as you noted, the kids track record sucks... this might be evidence that the OP knew what he was in for when he married the woman, putting him in more of a position where he absolutely has an obligation to help, just as she would expect him to. So either he needs to take a firm stance with the mother about his capability, or lack thereof, to help the boy... or do everything in his power to resolve the situation IN ORDER TO KEEP HER HAPPY... don't you see? the son is not separate from the mother...the are, in fact, a package deal

If any of this wasn't clear before they were married or the mother wasn't upfront with her son's problems, he has the proverbial, bigger fish to fry.
